No used games means i can't afford it. The article mentions steam, but the prices on steam are far better than what console makers seem to be aiming for with their digital distribution.
i worry about the variety that would be available. i'm not looking forward to another generation of shooter / sandbox games.
i wold much rather see some risks taken over the next 3 years...and some platformers like rayman
considering that the vita will always be more expensive, i agree that it would be hard for the vita to outsell it.

i played more jrpgs than i ever thought possible, mainly thanks to this thing.
Given the (relatively)recent events surrounding console launches, people are gonna be gun shy.
Eg
the weak early PS3 library; RROD; 3DS price drop
or have sony publish
I remember when dreamcast was launched people said the sales of it would pick up "as soon as the pokemon fad was over" - that was in 2000

This along with escape plan are the reasons i might buy one this year.

Success in the NA market will depend largely on whether or not they are able to bring a quality multiplayer experience(FPS Mostly) to the device.
I love handhelds cause its the only way i can find time to play rpgs. Loveee the sleep function.

A lot of the emphasis on sales this gen came from the discussion early on as to if the PS3 would be abandoned. These discussions came from ppl with no understanding of economics, but that did not stop the internets.
it may also give a clue as to the arrival of a successor at this point in time.
If sales were poor after all the effort made this year you can bet that the ps4 launch would be brought up.
