Even if you use the entire thing ... a 5 at best has to mean mediocre. I think a lot of people would disagree with that.

Super Mario Maker has my complete attention atm. This better be a damn good platformer for it to pull me away from Mario maker.
XBONE has two to arguably three huge exclusives and all the big AAA third party support.
PS4 game has no big exclusive, they do have all the big AAA third party support.
Nintendo has a couple of big exclusives but none of the big AAA third party support.
Take bias away ... the answer for THIS holiday is pretty clear.

What's the difference betweeen Wii and Wii U when it comes to gamers? Nothing. It's just a Nintendo adapter with little third party support.
For gamers ... Wii did not have Dead Space, Fall Out, Mass Effect, Bioshock, Assassin...
The reasons could be that
1) Platinuum is not up for sale in the first place
2) While their games are amazing, they don't really sell that well. For Nintendo to be truly interested, they would want games that are going to sell 5-10 if it requires a AAA budget. Look how they neglect the Metroid franchise. They do that because why make an expense Metroid game that will see 1-3 million at best when they can make a cheaper Mario game and sell 10-40 million instead...
I think they are making the same mistake Capcom did. You make your own games unreliable to your fanbase as to where your games are going to be.
Though to be fair unlike Capcom ... Platinuum really doesn't publish their own games so it's not like they have much of a choice.

Unless Nintendo is going to get full third party support, getting one more developer isn't going to make a big difference.

No one will agree on a best list.
It's all just personal preference.
For instance I personally would have The Wonderful 101 on my list even though I know its definitely not on everyone's list since the game wasn't popular.
But overall I am very happy with the Mario games on Wii U.
New Super Mario Bros was exactly what it was suppose to be ... bringing back the classic style after 15 years or more of no 2D Mario Games.
New Super Mario Bros Wii brought in 4 player coop.
New Super Luigi U was made 100% with hardcore true gamers in mind.
It's only with New Super Mario Bros 2 and U that they didn't really bring something fresh.

The only thing wrong with New Super Mario Bros U is that it wasn't "NEW" enough.
It was basically a better New Super Mario Bros Wii. That is why it is overlooked.
Fundamentally though ... it is fantastic especially with 3 friends.

If a similar styled game doesn't sell well on XB or PS it is because its a cheap knock off.
Do you recall last time there was a system with great level of third party support and Nintendo games? It was called the SNES. Fans of Street Figher, Final Fantasy were also buying Zelda and Mario.

Online multiplayer behind the paywall is the key reason why Live and PS Plus sell.
It's unfortunate but true. Neither of them need to give free games to be honest. They already suckered gamers into accepting paying extra ...
On PS3 ... they had to make PS Plus worthwhile since online multiplayer was free.
On PS4 ... Sony knows that CoD, Battlefield, NBA 2k, Madden and other online multiplayer games will force gamers to buy PS Plus now that they got people to accept to pay for online multiplayer so there is no need for them to have to spend money to get the rights to put a AAA game on PS Plus often.

Nintendo most likely already admitted defeat market share wise a long time ago so they instead decided to stick to a high return/profit margin instead to look good with investors.
Remember that Nintendo actually was losing money for a few quarters in a row.
Even with a price drop to 200 ... the best the third party - less Wii U would have done is 15-20 million lifetime.
