It's successful because its a great twist on a very popular but bland genre.
It takes a lot of elements from some of the best shooters on the market but completely "freshes" it up wit its own unique movement system and changes the "kill, kill, kill" philosophy of the shooting with its paint based gameplay that works as the objective of marking your turf, claiming your turf, providing you with movement options and even working as an indicator to where t...

Have Prime and Unlocked. I haven't shopped at gamespot in a few years.
I believe that most Nintendo fans that are true gamers ... have been multiconsole owners since the N64 days.
Gamers like myself fully understand that the Nintendo console is just NOT going to get the third party support that the NES or SNES had thus a companion Playstation, X-Box, PC or all of the above are necessary to my style of Nintendo fan.
This means that when we do get SOME third party support ... we will have bought that game already on another system...
What comes with the Prestige Editions?
To be fair ... somes games aren't reviewed correctly. Like Splatoon got some scores in the 70s because what appeared to be "lack of content" but that content was on the disc and was being released slowly over time at no extra charge AFTER the reviews were posted.
It is why Splatoon has won some awards this year yet the review wasn't so great.
Reviews aren't perfect.
Everyone's list is different. And we should respect everyone's personal list.
It was overall a fantastic year imo.
For ME PERSONALLY ... I would say my top 5 were.
5. Resident Evil Revelations 2
4. Call of Duty Black Ops 3 (please don't kill me internet, I know CoD is the game people love to hate)
3. Metal Gear Solid V
2. Splatoon
1. Bloodborne
Wind Waker true.
Other M ... false.
Other M is the worst mainline Metroid game. It's not a completely terrible game but it sure did fail to meet the high expectations of the franchise.
And not just story/character wise but gameplay as well with its broken dodge/power shot mechanic that takes away any and all challenge. And that is just one of many legit complaints about the gameplay of Other M.
The game would be fine IF there was a real Metroid game also releasing. But to release a sport spin off to a franchise that hasn't seen a good new main entry game in a decade was insulting.
Or maybe even better yet ... have this just be a bonus multiplayer addition to a main Metroid game.
I love Splatoon. It's an amazing and fresh shooter.
Finally someone with actual knowledge and facts. Bubble for you.

Past Halo's were released on a top selling system for core gamers.
A lot of Halo's core Fanbase moved on to PS4 and bought Destiny instead.
ALSO Halo came out in October and was ranked number 1 I think in October unlike other Halo's releasing in November.
Should we ask why there are no Sony exclusives in the top 10 in November that were released prior?
X-Box One exclusive is much more handicapped ...
Selling of the games is more important than selling a last gen system (by the time NX comes out).
Nintendo most likely only cares about selling the actually Wii U for as long as they can before NX comes out.
After that ... they will just market the NX going forward.
As for backward compatibility ... who knows ... we will have to wait and see.
Of course Sony deserves credit as well but MORE credit is deserved at the self destruction that Microsoft and Nintendo have done to themselves.
Japan is cool with sexually explicit images specifically when it comes to females ... USA is not.
Japan is not cool with gore .... USA is cool with gore.
This is speaking in general of course.
It's a massive success thanks to their competition beating themselves.
Nintendo with a weak system, lack of third party support, still far behind with the extra (party chat for example). Nintendo's Wii U is still seem as a Nintendo only system. Until you have 95% of ALL the big third party games, you can't expect to win over the core gamers in general.

Nah I own all three on PS3 and they look and play just fine while also having more content (coop/online multiplayer, etc)
I think DRM, always online, kinect forced, High price point WITH weaker powe, and Microsofts' attitude towards gamers complaints had more affect than what you said.
As others said ... very vocal minority.
I prefer classic style Resident Evil over the third person shooters they have become.
With that said I think Resident Evil Revelations 2 is underrated as well.
