If I decide to buy a console, as long as a new controller comes bundled with it, I don't care.
A pared down version could exist on Switch. MK11 is proof of that. Technically, any game could be ported over. It just wouldn't be as good as a PS4Pro or XBOX version. No biggie, tho. There's always Plantera Deluxe for Switch gamers!
In all honesty, it's too late as far as I'm concerned. They've been burning people with garbage releases since the 1990's. They've only gotten worse with time. It's not the dev's fault, they're being pushed hard to release too fast and grab as much cash from gamers pockets as the company can get. I played the beta, livestreamed it and just ended up cutting the livestream short on the second live session. The matchmaking system wasn't very advanced, no spectate, fighting felt kinda boring... Looks pretty, though. Also, at the end of the day, how many people will be playing this game? I predict another BBCTB, and within a few months, it's a dead game. It was fun for a few hours, but after that, I just got bored. I'll be passing this one up.

Still no word on whether backwards compatibility will be free or not. Can I download my digital titles onto a PS5 that I bought for a PS4 Pro? If so, will it be free or will I have to pay a fee to do that? That's like my biggest question and it's not being answered yet

It's coming, don't be fooled. The question is will it be as successful as TV, movies and music? There are so many positives to doing it, like lower startup costs at a time when console costs are skyhigh, no upgrade cycle, easy streaming, higher bandwidth in the pipelines for game fidelity... Agree to disagree. $500 is a lot of money for most people. You can use the "inflation" argument, but to counter you, paychecks haven't gone up as fast as the cost of goods, so relatively speaking people can afford these high prices even less than they could have in 2006.
Even for me, with disposable income, I'm not so sure I can, or want to, justify paying that kind of money for a console.
