In the past decade, the exact opposite of that has been true. AAA means copying everyone else and pandering to the lowest common denominator.
How does the age of the franshise make a difference.
What bearing does one franchise being 5 year's old and one being 15 years old have on the future integrity of the franchise? Logically it would be wiser to put the new, less known, less available franchise on more platforms to increase its recognition. Putting something that is well known in more places makes people more tired of seeing it.
Nintendo software exist solely to sale Nintendo hardware as Nintendo is primarily a hardware company.

I don't know where you get your facts from, but many devs have stated that they had good sells on the Wii U. It was primarily on the eshop of course.

Why would they won't to go bankrupt from selling their hardware at near half its production cost when its been repeatedly proven by retailers actually dropping the price that price drops don't increase sales of the console?
