It's not the king of games, rather of sales. And it's an easy game to maneuver and play and enjoyable in bursts, hence the strong sales.
In what way is halo not a great game for modern times? The franchise originated way back, yes, but I feel the developers have more than injected the franchise with fresh innovation and polish for the games to more than enough connect with modern times and wants.

Meh, besides the slightly tweaked lighting engine and some new gadgets, I see nothing here that interests me. Loved cod games up until modern warfare 2, at which point the series started going downhill and black ops 2 doesn't seem to be changing that trend.
