My IQ just dropped 10 points after reading that post because it was so dumb. It is a good thing I have lots to spare.

First off the I can't see the difference in image quality based off of number of lines of code. Lines of code doesn't determine how jaggie and pixelated a game looks. I can certainly see the game looks sharper with less jaggies, shimmering and pixel crawl at a higher resolution though. Also since the game matches the na...

Yeah right graphics only important for 7 year olds. That is why 7 year olds are buying 4K TVs, home theaters and videophile equipment just to get the better PQ, Oh wait...

Actually it is the 7 year olds who are happy with low res DS games.

What you said is like the opposite. I guess you will be playing your Sega MegaDrive in glorious 240p, after all only 7 year olds care about graphics and Sonic 2 plays great.

@kennyg3739

Now drive club is the standard for PS4 games? Well at least it bumped Knack off of the xbone fanboy list of games to bash the PS4 with. Of course I could mention Ryse and all of the crap games on xbone and claim that represents their library too if I were to be a butthurt fanboi.

No, sales doesn't mean quality, 1080p does and PS4 has it more than xbone. PS4 wins.

"the weather is coming"

That is part of the problem, the game was released unfinished and buggy. So you can buy the game disc but only part of the game is there. You must then rely on a DRM filled download only patch later to get the rest of the game. That is fine until the patch is no longer available in the future leaving you with the unfinished game on disc again.

Really they should have delayed this mess until it was finished/fixed but I gues...

Delayed, damn. M$ must have paid them off and enforced the parity clause again.

Microsoft has a deal with Ubi on Unity, Sony has one for Far Cry 4.

MS probably said "Hey we aren't going to spend all of that money helping you advertise Unity only for it to run better on our competitors platform". Ubi probably then said something to the effect "well OK, we will make sure both versions are the same - to avoid debates and stuff".

"If you got the pc version running in all its glory next to a console version then those with gaming PCS would wait for the pc version thus taking away money from Ms and sony "

That is just dumb. If one has a good gaming PC why would they ever want the lower quality console version? Even bad ports on PC run at higher resolutions and framerates than the consoles. Sounds like a conspiracy theory.

And when they are identical with the exact same graphic quality? Maybe then you will agree they just went for parity to "avoid debates and stuff".

The issue is the whole system. The GPU in the PS3 wasn't great and the amount of RAM at 2 banks of 256 mb was pathetic. Even when these came out I was surprised they didn't put 1 gig in them.

"The reason why ACU for PS4 wasn't 1080p was obvious to me the frame rate was likely all over the place at that resolution so they had to drop it down."

So both consoles are identical in power and the GPUs are the same? That would have to be true by your statement. If the PS4 res had to go down to 900p then the xbone should be at 792p as it is weaker in the GPU area and GPU effects resolution most. Since they are both at the same resolution then they went for ...

@rainslacker - "As to why the PS4 may not be able to reach 1080p, it may be because there just are so many assets on screen"

The whole problem with that and one so many seem to miss or gloss over is the fact that the xbone is also running at 900p. That statement assumes both consoles have identical power and hardware. Now your logic would hold if the xbone was only rendering at 792p or something like that. Since BOTH have "so many assets on screen", the ...

4120d ago 5 agree3 disagreeView comment

If that is true that the PS4 could only eke out 900p with a more powerful GPU then why is the xbone at 900p too? If the PS4 is struggling to get 900p then the xbone should be at 792p like Watchdogs was. Not only was WD at only 792p on the xbone but it had loads of screen tearing, worse shadows, and no AO.

That means logically either both consoles have exactly the same GPU power, or one was gimped for parity. Since we know they DON'T have the same GPU power (proven time...

Are we comparing consoles or video capture equipment and settings because those videos are too low rez to see much of a difference except contrast. They both look blurry.

Meh they should be comparing images straight from the frame buffer and at 1080p uncompressed for a real test.

@tman7302

Yes but it is still much faster to re-install from disc for 5 minutes than to wait hours to DL 50 gigs of game.

Now if they allowed us to backup the digital copy (that would only work on the console the account is on) that would be different, I would consider digital more but as it is now physical for me.

4122d ago 3 agree0 disagreeView comment

Yes true but then again most all games now days come incomplete and buggy on disc. When you delete a game all of the patches go too. When you re-install you have to go online and wait hours to get all of the patches back. Of course this is a problem when they no longer have the patches online, you end up with a busted game on disc forever (which is why the release now, patch later scheme is BAD).

It is still better/faster with the disc though as it is faster to DL 4 gigs t...

Of course you do know that solid state flash memory has limited write cycles right? They try to use write leveling (write to different cells to avoid over using the same ones) but that becomes less effective as the drive fills.

If an OS pounds the SSD allot it won't last either.

4122d ago 1 agree0 disagreeView comment

And the X1 is not quite as powerful as the PS4. The xbone has a harder time hitting 1080p than the PS4 does without having to dial back other things like shadow detail, AO etc.

That was the point he was making, if you are going to hold back the PS4 because of the xbone, why stop there? Why not go all of the way down to parity with the Wii U? It was an exaggeration to point out how dumb it is to hold back the PS4 for the Xbone.
