@TheOpenWorlder
This is much worse than Watchdogs. At least WD ran at 900p on PS4 vs 792p on xbone, had better lighting, shadows and AO than xbone not to mention it didn't screen tear all over like the xbone, AKA it took advantage of the extra PS4 GPU power.
This game looks terrible, Black Flag looked better AND was 1080p. After seeing this it is more obvious that xbone parity was the goal. N o buy for me.
Yeah but you can still see the huge downgrade. It is in everything from lighting to textures to geometry.
And they say they need to downgrade the resolution of the PS4 version to the same as xbone as it can't handle it for THIS? Those graphics look terrible.
"reminds me of the old Sega Dreamcast days where the future was bright and we had to wear shades."
Except that the Dreamcast bombed, causing Sega to exit the console business... (I for one DID like the Dreamcast however).
Demon Attack on Atari 2600.
720p? No, just, no.
All of the AA in the world can't help 720p. It just takes a low res mess and blurs it out. AA doesn't add "sharpness" it smoothes out jaggies. Any details in the distance such as fences etc just blob out at 720p. The MINIMUM should be 900p, anything lower and it gives me a headache.
Probably because multiplats are better on PS4 (except when Ubi gimps them).
Look at all that is coming in November. Who can play all of those? Far cry 4, Dragon Age, GTAV etc. Who cares that those are not "exclusive", they are still games, are good, and PS4 has the better looking versions. I won't be playing FC4 and thinking well it is on xbone too so the game is suddenly not as good.
DriveFlub.
And yet people gobble up these online only games and also digital download games which will all suffer the same fate.
Deleted a game due to the HDD being full? Now if you want to go back and play a few years later you can't because they discontinued it on their servers. Basically with online/digital you own nothing, because they can and will discontinue it at any time making "your" whole game library useless. Every digital and online only game is basically a...
The problem with ACU is that it runs at 900p on both x1 and PS4. That implies both consoles are identical spec wise, they are not. It is a fact that the PS4 has a more powerful GPU. Resolution is mainly determined by GPU (which is why when you upgrade one in a PC, you can bump up res, FPS) If the X1 has no problem running it at 900p than the PS4 should at least be able to eke out 1080p with the bit of extra power. If both games look identical on non identical hardware that would imply one ...
Anything can get to 60 FPS. The problem is that the visuals take a huge hit, the hardware is not infinite in power. When you need to render DOUBLE the frames per second other things need to go like textures, lighting, shadows etc.
They wanted the games to look better for mood etc. Better lighting shadows and textures were only possible on the console at 30 FPS.
You might not prefer 60 FPS if you saw how downgraded the graphics would be to get it.
People seem to imply that hardware is infinite and getting 60 FPS is just a matter of a little more code tweaking. If you have to render double the amount of frames per second that is huge in overhead, much more than the difference between 900p and 1080p.
If that was true then I would need to see them to make that decision. Watchdogs was 900p on PS4 and had better lighting and AO than the 792p xbox 1 version but still the aliasing was apparent at the lower res. But when textures, AA and lighting are identical on both and both run at 900p and 30 FPS then there is the problem as parity is the obvious reason.
I doubt devs make crap games just to do 1080p. That just sounds dumb. Devs are making crap games because they were trying to rush something out to have something soon to sell in the new consoles life. It takes a long time for those other things you mention and if every game was a fantastic work of art we would probably have like 5 games right now.
Infamous for example was decent but was short. They needed an exclusive game or everyone would moan about "no games"...
@edonus
Resolution does make a difference for some. It just looks better. It matches the native res of the TV 1:1 so it looks sharper with less aliasing, pixel crawl and fuzziness from an upscale filter that is not needed at 1080p.
I notice a difference and Watchdogs at 900p was noticeably more jaggie than a game at 1080p.
Is 1080p the end al be all that makes bad games good? No. Is it something that makes good games look better? Yes. ...
Bull. KZ and Infamous don't play sub par at all. They play fine. There are other issues like Infamous being a bit short but it was still decent.
DriveFlub though honestly should have been delayed again. Not just because of the broken online but because it is unfinished. No weather effects? Patch? Screw a patch, I want the FULL game if I buy it on disc otherwise there is no point. This release a partial game on disc only to release the rest as a patch later is a crap ...
And all of those xbone exclusives are all fantastic works of art right? Xbone has quite allot of clinkers too.
DriveFlub.
It gets delayed and still comes out unfinished. Where is that weather? This release unfinished, patch later is an annoying trend (especially for those without internet - which I do - but still).
I am wondering how this extra overhead will effect quality? Certainly all of this extra processing will downgrade game graphics significantly.
Sure there is an excuse to not have plus, the excuse is that if one doesn't like online MP games why pay for a service you won't use?
The old worldwide release dodge. Seriously retire that talking point.
I do think the price cut will help, and they do have better exclusives this season than PS4. There are so many multiplats coming that are great this year though that I wont have time for them all. Most of those (except maybe for AC:Parity) will look and/or run better on PS4. When I am playing a game that looks/plays good I don't sit there worrying if it is exclusive or not, but I do enjoy the better...
