If I were planning to build a new PC right now, I might tentatively take a look at the i7. But if you've already got a capable machine, I don't see the point.
You would have to shell out on a new motherboard, and possibly DDR3 if you don't already have it. It's the beginning for this new infrastructure, so there are bound to be bugs and issues still. I'd wait for the platform to mature slightly, and for improved chipsets to be released.
