That has always been my biggest complaint against Microsoft. Why can't they fund/buy more studios? That's what I would expect as a consumer used to seeing Sony do just that.
The other troubling thing is that other than Forza. Microsoft has not created in-house any of their iconic franchises. They've bought them. Sony instead created (which is more expensive obvioulsy) ips such as God of War, Uncharted, The Last of Us, Horizon, Gran Turismo, etc...
Microsoft can't compete against Sony unless the higher executives change their mind set, period. Just look at this, Sony has more studios than Microsoft, let's list them:
Sony has 10 studios:
1. Naughty Dog (Uncharted, The Last of Us, Jak & Daxter)
2. Santa Monica (God of War)
3. Bend Studio (Syphon Filter, Days Gone)
4. San Diego (MLB The Show, Modnation Racers, Kill Strain)
5. Sucker Punch (Sly Cooper, Inf...
@ItMatters:
There is no guarantee those XBone games will release, there have been a number of cancellations recently and in all honestly Crackdown 3 has shown so little so far even after 2014 reveal that is hard to say if it will release and when. Insiders are saying it has been under troubled development. E3 will show definitive lists for this year for both but on PS4, the second half of the year can include some of these:
1. Gran Turismo Sport
...
Ok moldy,
The PS4 has had atleast 2 if not 3 must buy games per year, let's see, in my opinion:
2013-2014 (launch and 1st year):
1. Infamous Second Son
2. Resogun
3. The Last of Us Remastered (meta 95, sold over 5 million on PS4 just retail, clearly a system seller, and arguably better than any game on PS4 and X1 from their first year) (2013's unquestionable best game and game of the year, over 200 awards, an e...
@ Horyzon:
For 3rd party exclusive support the PS3 had:
1. Metal Gear Solid 4
2. Heavenly Sword
3. Valkyria Chronicles
4. Demon's Souls
5. Yakuza 3, 4, and Dead Souls
6. Ni No Kuni
etc...not exactly bad games. Just to name a few. The X360 had very little first and third party exclusives. Some of the 3rd party exclusives were timed and ended up on PS3 later. Alas, the PS3 was outsold by the Wii.
It's not happening. Marvel was very clear. If you want to play Spider-Man games from now on. You better get a PS4.
You didn't read what Marvel said. They said future of Spider-Man videogames belongs to Sony. Spider-Man is going to be a PS4 exclusive from now on.
Wow. This is a huge compliment to Sony. Marvel is pretty much saying that Sony makes the best games out there. Interest how Marvel says Activision is the past and Sony and Insomniac the future for Spider-Man games.
Insomniac has said it's entire team is focusing on Spider-Man. Since it's already been said that this game is the first of many. I guess Insomniac is turning once again into pretty much a Playstation exclusive developer.
For those that...
It's better that Insomniac does it. That way Sucker punch can do another exclusive for ps4. Let them roll
1.Sucker punch (unknown game with melee combat)
2.Sony Cambridge (multi-million dollar franchise they were advertising to be making some years ago in job postings)
3.Studio Japan (Inevitable announcement of Knack 2 and Bloodborne)
Yup. Everything is possible when you own 15 studios.
Andrew House said the PS4 Neo is designed for the hardcore gamers. Meaning they are making it with a very limited amount of customers in mind as the Casuals make up the majority of the PS4 customers, just like most other consoles.
You know. If it included the VR built in or included. That might actually be sweet deal to many. Not a bad idea.
I don't think they will release both the PS VR and PS4 Neo on the same year. That's two expensive products. I'm betting the PS4 Neo is releasing next year at some point.
Andrew House said it's going to be much more expensive than the regular PS4. I think $400 is not exactly much more. It could be $500-600 easily.
if it's true. Then it's an Indie game. Perhaps 2D.
It's certainly a challenge. But not impossible. If Microsoft brought more game variety and actually risk a number of brand new ips made by their own studios, then I'm sure they'll get my attention.
Actually Microsoft has cancelled 2 games versus 0 from Sony.
Fable legends
Phantom dust
I think cancelling a game is the most broken promise you can get.
It's so true too.
@ It Matters:
Yes, Sony closed Guerrilla Cambridge and perhaps the game they were working on cancelled. We don't really know. But Sony had 12 studios before closing it. Microsoft now only has 5.
Microsoft has cancelled much more:
1. Cancelled Fable Legends and closed Lionhead
2. Cancelled Scalebound after 3 years since reveal 2014
3. Cancelled the brand new Phantom Dust game shown in 2014, replaced it with a remas...
