Bingo! System seller that makes putting down the money effortless. That's what they really need.

@Fearmonkey:

It happened for the Vita. At the system's launch, Uncharted: Golden Abyss sold over 1 million. The same has not happened for PS VR 9 months later. Nothing exclusive close to that Vita Uncharted's quality is on PS VR yet. If the Vita had that going for it and still become a commercial failure, imagine what will happen to PS VR.

If they were system sellers, the sales data would back it up. Non of these even got close to 1 million units. Sorry.

@big_dom_strikes_back:

I'm sure Sony has sales expectations that are even higher than they are letting on. I don't think PS VR can succeed without Sony making some big AAA exclusives for it. It's the first party studios that usually push the limits of hardware anyways. Most third parties are either making tech demos or straight ports playable without VR. If this keeps up, VR will become a niche market.

For me? all of them. No must own VR game among the release and soon to release that is not already playable without the tech. That makes it very expensive.

VR will be finished without a system seller. Move failed. Recycling and redirecting its tech for VR does not change the fact that the motion tech largely failed. It came and went without a must own game. Same will happen to VR if investments and risks are not taken.

@ Apocalypse Shadow:

The same was said about motion controls and that pretty much died because it had no real system seller. The Vita after the smartphone revolution also failed big time. VR is next, I agree with the argument made in this article.

It's troubling to see that no game has sold at least $1 million units. VR will remain a niche device for those hardcore gamers willing to spend the money.

Check out the author's other articles. He is definitely no Xbox fanboy, that's for sure. He makes his case as to why he thinks VR is in trouble. Nothing wrong with that.

$40 is not cheap enough? Your in for some waiting. I don't think it will hit $20 until many months later.

It's one of my most anticipated games for the rest of the year. Looks like it could turn out to be really good. Wish the original wasn't rushed. At least they were transparent enough to admit it at the end.

@BigWan78:

The author said that he bought an Xbox (the original) before he ever had a PlayStation. The article seems more objective than you give it credit for. There is a reason why the PS4 is outselling the Xbox One, it's not just fanboy influence

Yes, the majority of fanboys and non-fanboys will disagree with you. Sales will be the consequence of that.

@mikejezz:

Obviously that's partly because of the new hardware. Yes and everybody was talking about the Switch a few months ago. If it weren't for the Xbox One X, it would have been a much worse failure.

Phil said the new exclusives won't release until 2-3 years later. So good luck waiting, you might be buying a new console at that point as well or those games might be for next generation. If that's the case this would be a repeat of what happened with the X360's last years, barren in the exclusives department.

@horndog:

It was always and will be about exclusives.

3171d ago 5 agree0 disagreeView comment

If Sony slashes the Pros price to $299.99 things will get very interesting I bet. It has more attractive looking exclusives just around the corner and I'm sure PSX 2017 will highlight just that with release dates for God of War, spider-Man, Days Gone and the rest of the gang.

@Why o why:

So they did blow it then. Obviously getting the undecided on board must have been an objective. The Xbox One X will not sell much I predict. A lot of gamers talk big, less than half of those who say will get it, actually will I bet.

@torchic and LexHazard79:

It's the games that matter. Without exclusives showcasing the wonders of the hardware the price is not justified. Multiplats already look incredibly good on the regular Xbox One or PS4.

Exactly, the exclusives are usually what shows off the power of a specific hardware. Forza alone will not cut it and Phil said they have signed other exclusives not releasing until 2-3 years later. So you invest in this pricey beast and are supposed to wait 2-3 years to see new exclusives?

@JonnS:

I agree with the article. Microsoft totally blew it. If we get a new console generation in a year or two, the Xbox One X buyers might feel that they wasted their money. History tells us that Xbox consoles bring less exclusives as the generation advances because they begin to develop for the next console cycle. That might explain the lack of new exclusives, new IPs, plus Phil saying afterwards that they had more games but decided not to shown them. Excuse me? With th...
