I'm surprised so many people here think that a new IP would be made before a God of War game in VR even after a demo was already made. Considering that RIGS, a new IP, was a sales disaster I'm not so sure Sony is willing to risk so many new big IPs made by their own studios. In any case, there is still no core PlayStation franchise truly made for VR. You'd think they would at least bring some of their existing IP to VR. If not, then I think that if the next new IPs in VR don't...
That would be a first for Santa Monica. They have never touched other Sony's studios existing IPs. You may be right but after having done a God of War demo in VR, I think the most logical step would be to use that same engine and make a VR game out of it.
That would actually be pretty neat. Platforming in VR, huh? Didn't think of that before.
While true, the amount of pre-orders is not bad at all. The Crash Bandicoot franchise was dying and might get new life if these remasters sell. Keep in mind that tons of PlayStation fans have been asking for PS1 emulation. PS1 emulation will not bring new gamers to these franchises the same way that a remaster with modern day graphics can. It's definitely better than nothing and a good start or at least a last chance for Sony to assess some of the old IPs that were huge in the past and th...
I also predict that It's happening hands down. What else could Vicarious Visions do at this point?
It'd be so cool. Imagine The Legend of Dragoon remastered/remade from the ground up with trophies and other content. That'd be so awesome, I'd take that over just buying the old version of the game. We better support these games as fans if we want Sony to ever make further sequels. They are probably testing the waters.
The article is talking about a second wave. If we take last year's announced games Crash trilogy, Parappa The rapper, Patapon, Locorocco and Wipeout Omega Collection as a first wave. Then, Sony could plausibly announce another round of PS Classics this E3.
I agree that Phil Spencer's nice manners are not enough for Xbox. In my opinion, if they want to compete with Sony, they have to get rid of the dude bro culture on Xbox in favor of game variety. It will be costly but they should heavily advertise Japanese games, variety and open/buy some studios to give the Xbox what they are lacking most on. It costs money, but that's what they gotta do.
@SirJoJo:
It;s not false but true.
How many narrative-focused single player games has Microsoft produced this generation with their owned studios? 0
How many with third party deals: 1 (Quantum Break)
How many additional ones are coming that we know of? 0
And that's the problem Sony put more resources on Uncharted 4 campaign than did Microsoft on Halo 5. Why is that? Not only is Uncharted 4 more than twice as long but is arguably the best in the series as opposed to Halo 5 regarding it's own. Microsoft has and is focusing more and more on micro-transaction models and mp. Any objective bystander would notice that.
@GamesMaster1982:
It wouldn't make me happy at all, but I fear that day is closer than we think. I just hope Sony continues to meet success with their narrative-focused games so that they don't get tempted to go the same route.
@Obscure_Observer:
Sony released a ton of PS4 exclusives with no online features/modes of any significance. Here's a list:
1.Knack
2.Infamous Second Son
3.The Order 1886
4.Horizon: zero Dawn
5.Gravity Rush 2
6.The Last Guardian
Sorry but Quantic Dream games don't have any such thing, so Detroit: Becoming Human will not have it and doubt Knack 2 and Days Gone will either.

@ death:
Yes, we read that quote. That doesn't mean that Microsoft will produce these at all. It just means that they will allow those multi-platform ones to exist in their platform. Nowhere does he say that they will bring more narrative-focused exclusives and their current line-up doesn't even have a single one.
Days Gone will be Bend Studio's greatest test. Can they still be as good as when they made Syphon Filter? We will find out soon.
I think missing sales targets and or critical acclaim for their games in the last decade was likely the key factor in their closing. Yet it feels a little unfair as I'm not sure if other first party studios could have done that much better with either the VITA or VR.
@ ruefrak
I fear the same for Media Molecule. Tearaway on Vita had less sales than Killzone Mercenary at the end and the Tearaway Unfolded on PS4 bombed saleswise really hard. Dreams failure in sales could be the last straw.
In turn, I feel that since RIGS was a VR game that missed sales targets, Sony London and the Machester Studio's new VR games better make some decent numbers or Sony will pull out of the U.K. altogether and avoid such high taxes in...
Definitely. As good as some of the main ones in my opinion.
Totally agree with you. They should have focused all their energy on Medievil in my opinion. Other Sony studios are known for at least one big seller: Naughty Dog (Uncharted, many others), Santa Monica (God of War), Media Molecule (LBP), Poliphony (Gran Turismo), Sucker Punch (Infamous), etc.... Guerrilla Cambridge instead was all over the place. They tried lots of new IPs: C-12, Primal, Ghosthunter, RIGS, alas none where neither critically-acclaimed nor at least sold a million.
My hope is the Blue Point Games is working on Medievil 1 remaster/remake for PS4. It'd be cool if the PS Classic they are working on turns out to be Medievil.
Well Microsoft advertised it as a game changer against the competition. Remember the video that they released on how to play games you already owned on Xbox One? The E3 that announced BC was commented afterwards mostly regarding the BC. In fact, so many news media sites and Xbox fans were calling that announcement a "bombshell." Clearly, quite a few people believed that with BC, The Xbox One was going to deal a pretty significant blow to PlayStation.
