I wish someone would mod the PC version of FFVII to upscale all the static backgrounds and rerender the polygon models to 1080p just so people could see how stupid they are for thinking it's somehow comparable to PS2 remasters.
Sure. MGS is getting new water effects and better lighting, but nobody is trying to pass it off as a 'remake', are they? Ico is getting new lighting and motion blur but it's still the same assets, textures and animations. The God of War: Origins Collection is a massive overhaul and no doubt a tonne of work, but not a remake.
I'm sure FFX will get better lighting too. Maybe even a 3D camera. But it will use all the same assets from the original game, rendered i...
The phrase 'Halo Jesus' is apt. The game is posited as the end-all-be-all of gaming, particularly FPS. Those who buy it defend it like their own religion. Those who don't are happy enough to let it be but for the endless insistence of its faithful. Ultimately it's quite similar to religion vs. atheism. No middle ground can be found because those who like it cannot and will not accept the position of those who don't.
It's not that people 'hate'...
I never said it didn't work and if it does all the power to them. Personally, I don't get it. They must have massive overhead running those data centers but somehow don't charge for the service and only charge the same price for the games.
As a consumer, its hard to justify paying the same price for a game you cannot backup in any way. That may seem like a convenience to some but to me it just makes me uneasy. Eventually I have to imagine it will become a subscrip...
Nothing will. No point trying.
I'm chomping at the bit. Higher resolution. Higher framerate. Improved lighting. I just hope the camera can be switched between normal/inverted unlike in MGS3: Subsistence, which locked it in inverted.
Every HD remake uses a different engine. The original engines aren't designed to render at the higher resolution. The fact that they're using the FFXIII engine doesn't preclude it being a remaster. It's just the easiest and quickest way to achieve the desired effect.
I don't understand the business model, so I don't trust it. Too many questions and the only answers amount to: "It's magic!"
It would make sense as an all-you-can-eat Netflix style service, but I can't imagine devs and publishers would support such a model, rendering it irrelevant.
Read my comment above. Then check wikipedia for the terms "Rasterization" and "Interpolation" then forget about ever seeing them.
That doesn't even take into consideration the fact that nobody has the assets for those games anymore. They can rip the content from the disc but they deleted the original assets years ago.
Okami really deserves one. The art style is so beautiful but a little too.. busy.. for the lack of pixels for the original design. It would look so amazing in HD. Dark Cloud 2 is another game I'd like to see in HD.
Though all PS2 games can be played in HD with a reasonably good PC. (It also allows you to remap camera controls that were previously unchangeable) I'm actually playing FFXII in 1080p right now with inverted camera controls and it's so awesome.
I don't think these people understand how HD remasters work.. or at the very least don't know what rasterization is.
Onimusha, like Resident Evil (and many PS1 games) use static art for the backgrounds. It's all pixels, not polygons. It cannot be rerendered in HD. It can only be interpolated. That does not look good at all.
The same issue is why FF7-9, Resident Evil 1-3 and similarly designed games of that era will never be remastered in this fash...
Nvidia, you just blew my mind.
Am I supposed to care? 'Cause I don't.
Maybe that's why the PSN was brought down :P
In Canada, I pay quite a bit for decent speed but only 90GB.. Yeah. Just 90GB and that's like almost top tier consumer bandwidth. OnLive would drain that pretty damn quick.
There's not enough content specifically on PC and far too much content coming specifically from Sony. So 'the same games from us' is BS.
After this week's gaff regarding Chrono Trigger and FFVI, I'll reserve anticipation until I see them on the store.
(Even though I already have Chrono Trigger, Chrono Cross and FFVI on disc.)
They're pretty damn good, but I'd say they've defined the PS2 and PSP more than PS3, even though GoWIII is the best in the series.
Personally I think Polyphony has defined PlayStation up until PS3 but dropped the ball in many ways on 5, good though it may be. I think Sucker Punch deserves to be on the list more than they do. For me, Infamous is a series that is rooted firmly in PS3 where as both God of War and Gran Turismo are much more seminal to earlier platform...
It's going to be about a space wizard cult in a galaxy far far away, entrenched in a kind of civil war that has divided the entire galaxy. Like, a war.. in the stars.
FFVI is a perfect stand-alone title. I personally don't think it could benefit from the grubby mitts of the current crop at Square Enix.
FFVII has spun into a much bigger universe with an updated aesthetic that is no longer represented by the game itself. I think it deserves to be brought up to date at least to the level of Crisis Core or Dirge of Cerberus if not Advent Children in order to create a consistent tone across its entire series.
