Lame, this is old news.
This is looking good for the next generation of games. It says the technology is 4 or 5 years away from the first commercial chips. Faster, cheaper chips sounds like a great thing no matter what company makes it. Maybe the xbox???, the ps4, and whatever nintendo thinks of next will have this stuff in it.
I think its about this guy who wakes up in a deep sea station of some sort that has to fight for his survival. The game is supposed to focus a lot on just surviving and the weapons and stuff are supposed to be very customizable. It looks and sounds really cool. Anyone who knows more details please tell all, this game looks amazing.
It looks pretty good, but why are the people in this game so huge? Have they given any explanation yet? Anyways, I'll wait until Resistance and Gears are both out and I see them side by side on hdtvs before I authoritatively state which looks better. Its hard to judge from just screens, but both games look really sweet so far.

I didn't say no compression. I just said lossless was preferable to lossy compression, especially in hd. And the bluray releases have been poor so far because of their reliance on the mpeg2 codec. If they used a better lossy compression codec like vc1 or a lossless compression codec like h.264/mpeg-4 avc then they would be on equal footing with the current hddvd releases except with better audio. What about TV releases? They could use up 200gigs of space for 1080p video. Anyways, a hybrid disc is what they should have made in the beginning. Instead Toshiba and Sony have both gone for broke with their own standards and now they risk alienating the public and there is a chance both could fail. Personally, I hope bluray wins now because I'm gonna have a ps3, but it would be nice if they had compromised a couple of years ago and avoided the format wars.
Heavy compression is also lossy, as in data on images, textures, audio, etc. gets lost. As in you lose quality. There are still some quality lossless compression algorithms but they don't achieve the 85-95% compression that can be achieved with lossy data compression

But all those games were played at standard definition 720*480. Even games at standard hd resolution 720p are gonna have 3 times the resolution, so I figure textures better be 3 times as good, and character models are going to need to be a lot better than they were in the past. There are ten big movie studios. They are collectively known as the Big Ten. Universal declared long ago they would exclusively support hd dvd. This is not news. Two of the big ten, Columbia Tristar and MGM, are already exclusively supporting bluray and the remaining seven have nonexclusively supported bluray. This is not the major blow to bluray that the article plays it off as. bluray still has wider support from the movie industry.

You just picked out the best reviews for a couple of games. If you look at their aggregate review scores, they were all rated lower than you said. Some of those games got mediocre scores.
Because they completely f'ed up with DMC2. Seriously, don't play it. You won't miss any story because it didn't make sense. It sucked. The first one is classic though.

Secondly, If you played mgs2 you'd know how disappointing it was to not get to play as Snake and to have to play as Raiden. Snake is a pretty awesome character. And I don't know if Kameo and Viva Pinata are real games to brag about. Kameo only got middle of the road reviews and I don't see anything special about Viva Pinata. They're not on the same level as Snake by any stretch of the imagina...
2-3 years from now is still less than halfway through the console's lifecycle though.
Actually I think it shows that Sony will do anything to give bluray a legup. This can only help Sony. But people should only expect to see MGM or Columbia Tristar movies because these are the two studios that Sony owns.
