Do we really need another game butchered into a movie?
Spot on.
Unfortunately being impartial doesn't get you anywhere in the games journalism business, just ask the ex-Gamespot employees.
A 9.5 or 10 would be pathetically low on Famitsu's scorecard. I expect them to give GT5 the full 40 or close to even if it lacks and/or has inferior features than other racers (damage, online system) purely because it's Japanese.
GT5 will be a great game but it won't lead on all fronts.
"The two versions tested here are essentially identical, the only technical difference being - once again - the complete lack of anti-aliasing on the PlayStation 3 version of the game. In some titles this has a dramatic impact, but not so here. Lighting effects may look different in a selection of the comparison shots but this is mostly down to the dynamic nature of the weather and differences in the time of day. Like for like, the games are essentially interchangeable."

Just because you can't appreciate a console doesn't mean others can't.
For all the PS3’s and Xbox360's tech they haven't significantly changed the game.
AI and many other aspects of games simply haven't evolved anywhere as far as I was expecting them to. Unfortunately bigger and better is the order of the day not streamlined and smarter.
Hopefully developers will start churning out some more soulful games instead of these purely graphical updates.

Gears may be the best selling new IP this gen but it definitely isn't the most critically acclaimed.
The PS3's 08 line-up has more potential so unless Sony and their supporting devs drop the ball I can't see MS walking away with the most critically acclaimed first party games this year.
The Free PS3 with a Bravia deal has been fairly popular but not nearly popular enough to propel PS3 sales past the 360, Xbox per capita have always been pretty popular here.
In Australia the PS3 40GB SKU's recommended retail price is $700AUD vs. $579 for the 360 Pro pack with two games.
The 360 has a much better games lineup ATM and the newer 65nm units are in which I haven't heard anyone having RRoD issues with so hopefully that's over.
If the 360 didn't have games I'd have tossed it the moment it RRoD but the fact the repair was free, I got one month of Live free and could still play tons of good games made it more palatable.
My fellow Australians of all people should not be making global predictions based on our local market.
The Wii and 360 are the hotter products here at least compared to the PS3 which isn't selling too badly given the price ($699AUD).
Seems more like guesstimates and speculation on Chris Stead's part than actual figures. One shouldn't be surprised how much of a barrier the $1000 and now $700AUD was/is to the adoption of the PS3.
Most "1080p PS3 games" aren't even 1080p native, if we're going to use such lose terms to describe 1080p might as well chuck in every 360 game that is upscaled to 1080p.
Next gen is a matter of contention.
Backwards compatible PS3s are on death row, once the other SKUs sell out only the non-compatible 40GB SKU will be left, even the 360's pathetic software BC is better than nothing.
All round a lot of consoles will be sold by the big 3 an...
The rest of us aren't Yōichi Wada so his comment is rather pointless, $700 might be pocket change when you're the president of Square Enix but for a lot of us it is a fair bit of cash.
On the price front I think Sony and their supporters are still being a touch arrogant, they should be advertising/praising the PS3's features not sprouting this "but it’s cheap" spiel.
On almost all Blu-ray and HD DVD releases the main feature is in 1080p. HD DVD almost exclusively uses VC-1 while Blu-ray releases vary with MPEG2, H.264 or VC-1 used on numerous titles.
That's may be because a lot of what has been shown of FFXIII is CGI, SE love to misguide consumers by making the bulk of their trailers/promos CGI.
Mass Effect is currently the best existing RPG graphically.
Good point Skerj, I was only thinking of the main series.
Normally play shooters on the highest difficulty when playing campaign, other genres I tend to prefer normal for the first play through.
As I rarely pass a game nowadays due to time constraints and a general lack of interest/attention in games that are the same old with a new coat of paint.
Sony bled for years until consumer Betamax died out (it was still used by pros for some time). Hopefully Toshiba don't do consumers the same dis-service.
That's because the DS and Wii cater to the same market, casual players.
Not surprising, SE must have at least one re-release of a final fantasy game on just about every platform bar Microsoft Xboxes.
360 games often look because the 360 has a more familiar SDK and the system is more easily utilised. There's no mass developer exodus as you claim so I'll hand you a tissue as consolation.
