I think it's a great way to show how absurd the console model is. On pc you would upgraded the gpu instead of buying a new console and still have the huge library you can play on higher definition and settings without rebuying your games twice.
Think about it, in 6 years you want to play it again well on pc you would be playing it in 4k and the game would just scale with time and hardware available at the time, no fees added to the game.

almost max settings in 1440p 60 fps with a normal rig
there are many 4k monitors that are releasing for 700-900$ price range. You add that with 2 high end gpu like 290/780 for about 550$ a piece and boom a 4k gaming exprerience at 60 fps with almost maxed(except AA and one or two demanding options) for under what you've paid a 1080p tv 5 years ago.
Console gamer probably don't have this problem since the scope of console game is small, but in games where you can see enemies up to 2 kilometers resolution helps greatly ide...
1080p to 1440p make a wrold of difference, 4k from 1080p is like seeing with new eyes.

Another reason why pc gaming make more sens. You don't need to buy your games 2 times to play high res. Heck, in few years the same game today will be played 120fps 4k instead of being stuck in time.
