That's actually a confirmation of plans for a successor. They're willing to do it but the "climate is not healthy FOR NOW." The timing is wrong, and they'l probably need to see what Nintendo does and maybe consider doing some type of pone hybrid like N-Gage or something. Vanillaware is one of those rare developers which makes epic games consistently.
I think the MGS HD Collection was alright. The one for Vita, at least.
Miitomo was interesting for a few days, and tolerable for a couple weeks. I managed to log in for a month or two but lately can't bother doing so. They need to make it more of a game, or give away more coins, and add better prizes. Also, should've been on 3DS from day one.

Well it isn't really optimism when you think about it. The biggest piece of evidence to me is Sony itself. What is Sony? A company. What do companies do? Make money. What's Sony's focus? Gaming. After a single misstep I don't think they'd entirely pullout of a sector of the market they focus on unless they're run by monkeys. Virtual Boy was a failed handheld on Nintendo's part but they didn't give up on the market. Why would they? Seems illogical.
