As an old online gaming friend frequently used to say... "RL > *"
"goes back to join millions and millions of gamers gaming online on the PC every waking hour"
Have fun in WoW!
The important thing to me is context. EA's NHL series has ads on the boards (and yes, they are updated periodically). Burnout has billboard ads. Battlefield: BC has ads too; I remember seeing a well placed Dark Knight poster on one of the maps. Blatant placement (a la Killer Tomatoes) such as DVD jewel boxes plastered on the screen with no context or relationship to the game whatsoever is stepping over my line. EA disgusts at every turn.
Clearly you've never left the city, but broadband internet is certainly not universally available, not even in developed nations.

Everything you'd ever want to know about internet subscription statistics, sorted regionally. Direct your attention specifically to total internet households, and compare that to broadband penetration #'s. I think you'll be shocked to learn that n...
I suspect it will still be high fantasy, maybe even something more traditional. I would love to see something with a bit more basis in reality too though. Something like DAoC, which was based on a real time period. That same period, done by Blizzard, would be great I'm sure (until the expansions start rolling out).
Sounds like a game I play a lot... every day even. can't remember what it's called though...
Or they could just implement cross-faction chat on PvE servers. But they wouldn't make any money off you that way.
You'd be playing on Battlenet servers, so the data is transferred from your PC to bnet, your friend's PC to bnet, bnet back to your PC, bnet back to your friend's PC. LAN play would work more like your PC to your friend's PC. See the difference? Clear as mud, right? Lol.
I read it on the internet therefore it is Truth.
^^does not compute. I miss credible, well written journalism. Damn you bloggernet.
I will buy a PS3 when they take all the expensive features I don't need out of it, making it a reasonably priced gaming console/bluray player. Sounds like that's what is happening. And you mocked MS for their modularity with the Xbox 360. Seems like Sony is starting to think it was a good idea after all.

I wasn't even a huge fan of the original Starcraft, but the times I did play it was LAN'ing with friends, and even though I suck, it was (and always is) fun to get together with the guys for some sweet competitive action.
I swear, gaming companies want to keep us all holed up in our own homes, never to see the light of day, let alone our friends' faces. Digital distribution means that we don't even have to leave home to buy the damn games any ...
“There's a small team working on getting the technology working on the Xbox platform. I think it’s safe to say that the technical challenges in this area have turned out to be greater than we originally envisioned, so there isn’t any update there at the moment, but it is still being worked on.“
read: Joe's secretary is still bumping AoC 360 posts on the odd forum here and there.
This story makes me wish I've been a member for 30 days already... trash headline. I can't wait to see how they implement all those shaders in the latest 2d tower defense app! Give me a break Apple. Push it as a gaming device all you want, but don't misconstrue limited shader support as equivalency for the capabilities of home consoles. I understand that in terms of pure processing power, the iPhone can compete with the PSP, but how many poly's can it push? And I know that poly-count is...
Those SC devs are probably the jerks who thought up Battlegrounds, thus ruining WoW PvP forever.
This is probably one of the most popular LAN multiplayer games ever, and they are removing the (jury rigged) ability to do it? Obviously this is to stem piracy, but no better than the Spore debacle, in my opinion. They are basically restricting the way that you play the game. It seems a very basic functionality that will be absolutely crippled because they can't find an effective way to conrol piracy other than imposing restrictions upon LEGITIMATE owners of the game. It's a shame. I hop...
Would be great to have one in Toronto as well. I love Monster Hunter, but I'm not a high-school age kid with daily access to hundreds of like minded people to play with. It's a cool idea nonetheless.
The implication of features on the 360 that are missing from the PS3 was your own subjective interpretation of some of the points. Nowhere did I literally imply that any of those features were lacking in the PS3. In fact, if you reference the comment I was replying to, you'll see that I was merely mirroring a list of features that Kamikaze135 definitely had implied that the 360 was lacking: "The 360 is strictly a gaming machine with a few extra features. The PS3 is divided between bein...
I was more so pointing out that the Xbox 360 can do almost all of the things that the PS3 can do (in some cases better, in some cases not), rather than stating that one console is better than the other. Only a few of my counters were of the "I just wouldn't use it" variety, but you called me on them. I'm inclined to agree with mynd; the PS3 offers a lot that those without a PC would take advantage of.
I did agree on the actual point of the article, that as a media hub...
First of all, I agree with the article for 2 reasons:
1) Blu Ray
2) Support for HD audio formats (see #1)
But since I like to play point/counterpoint...
Xbox 360
========
- Play DVD & HD-DVD (but I cede this point to BluRay)
- Free Online access (much of Xbox LIVE is available with a FREE Silver membership)
- What the hell is Vidzone?
- iPod/Zune support (probably any PMP, and why would I need to DL the musi...
