"When companies like Crytek start pumping out games that only feature DX9 at launch"
Since when is Crysis 2 already launched, hmmm?
Just because the demo that was released is in DX9 only is not evidence at all that the full game will be released in DX9 only also. Crytek has said it will be a DX11 game.
Also, let's not forget Dragon Age II. It's demo which came out last week, released with only DX9 mode because the DX11 mode ...
Yes but you're comparing a studio's artistic direction in a game, which isn't what this is a about. From a TECHNICAL standpoint, the CryEngine 3 is far above this new Unreal Engine version. IT has many more advanced features that can allow for much more realistic, beautiful and dynamic game-play. The studio making the game just has to put the time into it. Crytek's dev team is nowhere near as big as Battlefield's, yet they still did pretty good.
By definition it is not. "No ifs ands or buts."
And acknowledging that does not automatically mean I am arguing that piracy is ok to do.
People who were never a potential sale to begin with are not a sale lost, and thus they have NO negative effect on the industry. Only the benefit of an increased userbase and popularity. People need to stop thinking that ever pirated copy of a game is a "lost sale". Because that's an utter lie. In reality only a small portion of pirates are lost sales. The rest make up people who can't afford it for someone reason, or don't care enough to be paying for games, if they had...
Yeah that's what I meant by it being untrue with Mac's... But it seems I was too vague XD.
Which is funny, cause it's untrue! Just like with Mac's! :P
But.. the Wii sensor bar cord is like 18 feet long or something, (haven't measured it.)
Nope. You could build a PC for under $650 that could run all these features at higher than 1080p with some anti-aliasing and fairly higher texture and object quality.
So with the subsidized cost of consoles and their mass production, it would be fairly cheap.
It's already happened this year, with Crysis 2. Pick it up in a few weeks for either the 360, PS3 or PC. It has all these features and much more enabled on the consoles. (Except for DX11 tessellation on the consoles of course, since their GPU's don't support it.)
Is that you Dasch?
Also, CryEngine 2 did most of this stuff, including the subsurface scattering. And CryEngine 3 does all of this plus much more. So this honestly isn't amazing me. Crytek beat them to the punch and already is about to release a game with all these features enabled on the PS3, 360 and PC.
@LoD:
Ughhh. Crysis had all these features, the point light and sign reflection are the only ones I'm unsure of. And of course DX11 tessellation since DX11 wasn't out during the time of CryEngine 2's production. And Crysis 2 for sure uses ALL of these features, including many more amazing features, the most notable being real-time dynamic global-illumination.
Seems most people aren't aware that the CryEngine 3 already has ALL of these features, and much more. And Crysis 2 uses ALL of them.
Hell, even the CryEngine 2 had most of these freaking features!!

Why not build a more powerful desktop PC for less money?
Sigh... there is no "port"ing going on here. The only reason it says press Start is because they didn't bother changing the graphic on that part for the PC demo. And most PC gamers know what press start means, usually meaning press Enter.
The engine isn't built for one console or another. It's built for all 3, the PC, PS3 and 360. You build the assets and engine on the PC, at PC graphics level. Then it compiles the game out for the consoles based on sets...
Wait till Q3/Q4 of this year at least to upgrade. Intel will be releasing a major new version of CPU's then, which will be on the much smaller 22nm fabrication size. (Current size for i7's are 32nm), that's 32% smaller. And it's looking to be a much bigger boost in performance than the usual new generation.
Uhhh, this isn't overclocking software. It just disables running services on your computer that aren't essential when running a game. Thus freeing up system resources and less data needing to be crunched with each clock.
id Tech 5 Engine and Cryengine 3 already beat them to it. I'd be surprised to see them show off any significant new features that these 2 engines don't already have. CryEngine 3's dynamic global illumination is a pretty big breakthrough.

The point is that you don't loose sales from something like this -_-. Most people have a poor understanding of the actual effects of piracy. They think it's just a one way street, people just pirating something instead of paying for it. Which in realty is only a small fraction of the pirates.
Look at the massive amount of media attention Crysis 2 is getting now because of this. If this leak never happened you would have just seen a few articles anticipating it's r...
Look at all the news coverage on websites it's getting. This news obviously isn't going to only be read by people who are pirating the beta. It's everyone who reads gaming sites.
It will definitely equate to more sales. The majority of people who pirate games, will either pirate a game or not play it at all. Whether that be because they don't have the money for some reason, or they just don't care enough.
So a game leaking like this does n...
You clearly don't know much about this subject when you manage to leave out the id Tech 5 engine.... Which is in the top 3 engines.
