Yeah, you would need to do a good amount of reprogramming to make a whole OS run on it. As you have to create all new ways of managing the data around the motherboard and the software framework. Plus you would need to rewrite a new core for booting with a GPU instead of the CPU. That might be a bit of a complicated issue. But you could definitely accelerate many parts of an OS on Fermi.

But applications will be a breeze now. Most applications should be able to run on Fermi with some...

Awesome, can't wait to see how this turns out. I've seen Nvidia's newest Tegra revision up close and personal. The specs are quite good, enough to run Windows 7 with no problem and some minor games, all on a small little motherboard+chip that fits in the palm of your hand.

Now that they are moving to 40nm, it's going to get a much needed boost with a better GPU core and a better ARM core. Currently it's using the ARM 11 and 7. Should be moving to the ARM A8 which is a lot better...

Sorry, but I prefer having a right click and middle click option. Along with majority software/hardware support, including games. And the option to upgrade the parts of my computer when needed, not be wasteful and buy a whole new computer each time.

Only uninformed/stupid people get virus's.

1.) Don't click on random AD's, or any AD's for that matter, as 99% of the time the AD's are links to sites whose primary purpose is to infect you.

2.) Don't use Int...

Yep. People wining about physical media going away in the other recent news post, forgetting that DRM is an even bigger problem.

Eventually we'll move to selling movies on little SD cards or something similar. It's a much better solution. Takes up much less room and doesn't loose data when you scratch it's plastic surface lol.

As fabrication process's become smaller, this route will become more viable. It's still more than 5 years away though. It's going to be another year or 2 before SSD's are more price/space effective than hard drives.

Major_tom.. I don't think you understand the situation here. Nothing about this is freaking Draconian. Nvidia worked to get AA implemented in that damn game! There is no f*cking reason why they would be obligated to set it to automatically work on AMD's GPU's.

Nvidia did something to improve a game for use on their GPU's. AMD can get involved if they want to, they chose not to, big whoop. Don't bash Nvidia for wanting to improve something.

And when it comes to PhysX,...

But what exactly don't you agree about in this situation though? Nvidia implemented something in a game that otherwise wouldn't have been. There is no reason at all for them to say, "oh hey, I guess well do AMD's job for them also and enable it on their GPU's."

That would be giving AMD a free ride.

Here's the whole situation:

Nvidia worked hard to implement AA in the game. AMD could have gotten involved at least a bit to have it enabled for them also. It's not Nvidia's freaking job to get something working for AMD. Nvidia did not stop something from working for AMD, they merely added a feature to a game that was enabled for Nvidia, since Nvidia is the one who added it in. Just like how Nvidia added PhysX to the game.

2.) Rofl, only around 5%? You must be drinking some major kool aid there. It's actually the other way around, with only around 5% of software out there have support for Mac's. And that's a generous figure.

3.) If they don't design the GPU, CPU, PSU, RAM, Hard Drive, Disc Drive, and fans, then all that's left is the motherboard. And still even then, there are licensed industry chipsets you have to use to support the previously mentioned components.

@Mr Bun:

Microsoft doesn't make PC's. They make software for computers. So of course there's no comparisons. What there are comparisons of all over the internet, is price/specs comparisons between Apple computers, and computers that have a version of Windows bundled with them. There is a definite large Apple premium that has been proven over and over again. And if you put together your own computer, so save an even larger buttload of cash, cash that could go towards even better ...

While that matters a lot also. The amount you have matters also. People should be looking for at least 1GB cards now. It is the new minimum for playing the latest games. And over the next few years you'll want even more as games push GPU's even harder.

@psycho360:

The Workstation cards such as Quadro will run games just as well. The only difference between these cards and the gaming cards is usually more ram, and sometimes a few BIOS tweaks.

It's mainly the fact that when you buy these workstation cards, your able to install drivers that have support for accelerating CAD work.

So it really is quite a rip off that they are paying such a premium for drivers that have an added feature to them. You used to be ab...

Oh yes.. Apple is so reliable when you went to install OS X on hardware other than their own. Oh and their also so reliable when you want to use other software than iTunes.

//sarcasm

Apple takes a minimalistic totalitarian approach to the industry. It treats everyone like an idiot and packages things in the most dumbed down way possible. In doing so it stagnates true creativity and user freedom. Apple also wants to control every bit of software and hardware your using, ...

They are waiting for a way to produce them cheap on the fly. The best idea right now is printing them in a long production line that would make them cheaper to build than normal TV's due to a quick automated printing process. This has already been done as a prototype for much smaller screens, it just needs to be perfected and scaled up.

And the problem with this is?

Most ad agencies operate like this. Google ad's are an example of this. Trackmania Nations has had this kind of advertising also for years.

@aliveinboston: Lol, I'm not out of my depth at all :).

Of course I've heard of those games, but that doesn't prove anything. What you think the cell is rendering those scenes? Hell no. The PS3 has a GPU also that has to render it. The Cell is used in those games for post processing, physics, particle/volumetric effects and other behind the scenes processing, that have been done on CPU's for ages but are now starting to move to GPU's also.

And when it comes to GT5, i...
