Until they release DX11 hardware. You can still take advantage of the CPU multi-threading support in DX11 though.

Pfft, this doesn't mean anything! This is just theoretical! DX11 is a paper dragon! And your all fools!

@Major_Tom:

Yet again, a post with no substance.

How about instead of making remarks towards me each time, you actually say something meaningful, as currently you just sound like a troll. I have no idea what parts of my posts your even disagreeing with. Why the hell do you think DirectX 11 is a paper dragon when it's already freaking out! You seem to be acting like you know it all, but your not saying anything to back that up. It seems like your just trying to push m...

@Major_Tom: Your ignorance and stupidity knows no bounds.

Is Multi-threading theoretical? No. It's just multi-threading dumbass!

Is general purpose computing theoretical? No. It depends on what's being computed.

Is tessellation performance theoretical? No. Performance is dependent on level of tessellation. Using tessellation to achieve high detail instead of a high detail mesh itself will run faster. This is not theo-f*cking-retical. We've known this for...

@LinuxGuru: Most people do, since PC's are used for so much in our lives now.
(Just saying this as a general statement, not a rebuttal.)

10.1 didn't really implement much that would increase performance..

Uh no.. If you go take a read about what features implemented in DX11, you'll know why it's increased performance. Just because DX10 was fail, is no reason to automatically discredit any future versions.

This recently submitted article/interview covers it pretty well for the average person to understand:

Let's say I have a DX10 scene with highly detailed models, ...

@LinuxGuru:

That tessellation the cell processor. The PS3's GPU isn't capable of it though. The 360's is. But still, the tessellation they use isn't the same as the one in DX11. It's not dynamic, it can't be used for things like water. Terrain is fine.

And again, this isn't just about how the game looks. But how well computers will be able to run it due to the optimizations. The multi-threading part of DX11 can be utilized by DX9 and up GPU's.

It's not about what your seeing, but the performance of what your seeing. If they didn't implement DX11, trying to do this kind of detail with DX9/10 would make this game run epicly slow on your computer.

It wasn't talking about HDR when it said "Enhanced lighting & Post Processing". HDR lighting has been around for quite some time lol. It's talking about the improved lighting effects of SM 5.0 and increased performance of post processing effects.

And where exactly did you get your info about the 360 version having water tessellation? Searching brings me no results about that. Yes the 360 GPU supports some tessellation features, but not the full feature set DX11 uses...

Very nice to see a PC version of a multi-plat done right. They're taking full advantage of all the DX11 features. Tessellation, DirectCompute & Multi-threading will really help a games performance.

5966d ago 7 agree1 disagreeView comment

I wonder if they are secretly adding in some DX11 features..

@Major_Tom:

So you felt the need to just say that. Bravo.

There's no debate to be had here. Were purely talking about DirectX 11 in this post. You seem to be claiming we've had a debate about theoretical performance. Which has nothing to do with this. The SDK has been available for quite some time. DirectX 11 isn't just a white paper. There's no theories on performance since we are able to test it.

@evrfighter:

No see, if they were going to be the first out with DX11, then they would be hyping it. But because AMD is the only one with DX11 cards out right now, the smartest marketing move is to downplay it, to try and hurt AMD's sales until Nvidia can get it's cards out the door. Fermi chips are currently in production, cards won't be available till around the end of the year. You'll start seeing them promote DX11 when it gets close to launch time.

@Major_Tom:

I have no personal agenda except for refuting unfounded statements.

I don't know why your talking about "theoretical power". Were not talking about Fermi or some whitepaper on about a chip. Were talking about the capabilities of a software. I've personally played around with the tessellation engine, I've seen how it works and performs. There's nothing theoretical about it.

@evrfighter:

As I said, of course Nvidia is dow...

@evrfighter:

Actually Nvidia is supporting DX11. There just not hyping it right now because Nvidia's first DX11 parts aren't going to be out until around the end of the year. If you read the WhitePaper on Nvidia's Fermi chip, it fully supports all the features of DX11.

And it's not that Nvidia didn't support DX10. It's just that they had conflicts with AMD on what was or wasn't worth having in it.

Here's what Nvidia argued not to include in DX10:

Yeah, I would hate something like this. I like to grip my mouse all over and move it around. I need to know for sure if I'm doing to click or scroll. Thus normal mice have a little clicking sound and depress a bit.

Apple really needs to stop trying to be so minimalistic. There is a such thing as too much. You take it so far that your removing practical functionality. Sadly they do it because people all go "OMG! Look at that! It has no buttons and it's shiny and all futuristi...

Ooh sounds interesting, this was quite unexpected. 9 days away! I wonder if it's going to be another new architecture on the side made just for doing PhysX. That would be nice since it would be like bringing back the Ageia PPU's.
