Loved the original with its retro classic sci-fi feel, the mystery of space exploration, the more mature story and the much deeper RPG game-play, but not so keen on the second one. Seemed like it was designed to appeal to a far more casual and younger audience. It was still fun, but not half as cool as the first one was.
I've read the previews on ME3 and it just seemed to be more ME2 to me, so I haven't really been that bothered about it. But if by some small chance t...
I do agree that past classics like X-COM shouldn't be messed with. If publishers really want to revive an IP like this, but do something completely different with it, then it needs to become more of a spin-off, rather than a successor.
I'd love to see a proper old school X-COM reboot with turn based isometric combat, but I also really like the look and sound of this new re-imagining too.
I want both!
I think the new Xcom game itself c...
It released in Europe early. It doesn't release in the US until June, so its off to a good start it seems.
Also I agree DR wasn't half as bad as some people made it out to be.
I've been playing it almost non-stop for the past two weeks. It makes a change from the linear CoD clones, which i'm really tired of.
The thing is, they arent selling it as a PC only soldier sim any more. So there isnt anything to be fooled by.
The devs said in many of the preview videos that it finds the middle ground between games like ArmA and games like CoD Modern Warfare.
lol. Nah its not.
It would be difficult to complete this game in a day. The mission are pretty long, and then there the online coop and levelling 4 different classes up.
I don't think you really played this game.
And if you did, then you didn't really give it a chance. ;)
I agree with that. Though the A.I isnt nearly as poor as it was in Dragon Rising or the first Mass Effect.
Its about on par with Mass Effect 2. Sometimes your squad mates do silly things, but most of the time they pretty much just look after themselves. And they are quite useful unlike Gears of War. Those guys may as well not even be there. lol.
I disagree on both points. Since i'm really tired of the repetitive run & gun CoD & BF clones, I quite enjoyed Dragon Rising. If your're a console gamer and you like shooters to be authentic and with some realism, but not a full on ArmA style soldier simulation then you'll like Red River. And imo its a lot better than Dragon Rising, its faster paced with some of the biggest battles ive seen on a console. It really captures the feeling of being in a war, like no other game ...
There's no way they'd be able to bring ArmA 2 to console and retain the same level of complexity.
I think Dragon Rising is about as complex as console limitations allow.
Red River I think probably has a better balance though. Its a lotta fun if your tired of run & gun shooters.
What this franchise needs is to separate itself from the original soldier sim OFP games even more, so that it doesn't keep drawing the same comparisons...
In RR you do fight alongside 2 other A.I controlled four man fireteams and a staff sergeant. I'm sure there were other friendly A.I around too, and from time to time there's armour and airsupport, so its intense. The battles are quite large in scale for a console shooter. Its a pretty good game. A nice balance between CoD and ArmA.
The online coop and levelling your classes and skills up is a hella fun.
2009 ;)
Its fake. This should never have been approved.
The game doesn't have an official release date yet.
Its still TBA.
Its being developed Gearbox who purchased the Duke IP and are now releasing it so, no.
No.
WTF is this? Its not fucking news I know that much.
Its nothing more than speculation. Sega / Gearbox haven't officially announced a release date for this game yet.
I personally found the middle ground very pleasant indeed. Gone was the boring simulation and gone was the repetitive nature of the arcade shooter, replaced instead with a nice balance of action and thoughtful game-play. I'm really enjoying it.
I hope more games go this way in the future, because its a really nice change of pace.
Well then i'll bump my commentary up to "its a good game." ;)
No it isn't. Its something that sits in the middle between full on soldier simulation and arcade CoD style shooter.
I like something a little different and more realistic, that isnt a full on simulation like ArmA or the original OFP. Something a bit more inbetween like BIA, GRAW or R6: Vegas is how I would describe it.
In OF: Red River, one bullet can kill, there's no health regen and the size and scope of the battles (huge in comparison to CoD and ...
The game was designed around a coop only experience and its pretty addicting with its class and levelling up system. Not sure on the longevity, but getting all four classes to level 20 is quite time consuming. Its a lot of fun if your into coop.
"However, some players may lack the tactical awareness needed." -Gamespot reviewer
So did this game score low because its too tactical and too challenging?
I've been playing this game myself for the past couple of weeks, and it is challenging (one shot does kill) and it does make you think about about how best to handle each situation,so its very tactical, but imo that's part of the fun with these types of games. I don't think that shoul...
