Wow! That sounds amazing. This is exactly the sort of first person game I love to bits. The stealth, the powers and abilities, the RPG elements and most of all the choice.
Cant wait to see this game in action.
Screw all that. I really, REALLY wanna play this game on day 1. But I want the full experience! not pre-order / special edition bits and pieces all over the damn place. I think the best option right now, is to not pre-order anything, pick it up second hand in a few months and just forget about all this in-game pre-order bonus stuff. As much as that pains me to do. I cant in good conscience support this sort of practice from developers and publishers. Its killing the fun of gaming for me. I no...
Gearbox are a bit of a hit n miss dev really. Sometimes they get it right, like HL2 Opposing Force, Brothers in Arms: Road to Hill 30 and Borderlands, and then sometimes they get it wrong, like Duke, and the slightly better Hells Highway and Nightfire.
Theyve done a lot of ports and expansion packs in the past, but they dont really count since the ground work was already laid.
And honestly, I dont expect much from that new BIA spin off or their Aliens game ei...
So far it sounds like CoD in space. with aliens.
Love the movies. Well the first 2, but this devs track record aint great. Well other than Borderlands which was okay. everything else they have done recently has been pretty meh, especially duke.
Ill hope for the best, but some of the recent previews i read, its sounding too CoDified to me.
'Gearbox wants to "really make it just like the movie [Aliens]," asserted Burleson.'
I hope its not too much like the movie. In that its full of cutscenes and cinematics.
Well thats disappointing. Was really looking forward to the squad tactical features of this game. Looks like they went back on the promises to the fans.
Guess I can forget about this now. It will turn out just as accessible and crap as AvP!
Why cant someone just make one amazing Aliens game? All it needs is the movie accuracy (preferably the first two),some indepth squad based gameplay and some non-linear missions. If only Bethesda or the Bioshock guys were m...
As much as id love to like this game, i found out they cut the squad stuff out so now its just another generic shooter. I already have Halo.
Agreed. Aside from its launch problems, its such a great game. I'm playing it again right now with the Camerilla Edition mod installed and wesps unofficial patches. Must be my fifth play-through now, and it still hasn't gotten old.
I really miss Troika. They were one of the best RPG developers around. I often think its a shame they weren't given more time to polish their games off before release. The incomplete buggy forced releases really hurt that company, and I...
The IP is great and i'm definitely hoping for high scores across the board. But the IP being a great one doesn't automatically mean a sequel will be any good. Just look at the 'oh so missing the point' and super averageness of Deus Ex 2: Invisible War as an example of how not to do a sequel to a great first IP.
Anyway im a huge fan of the SS2, BS, Thief & Deus Ex style hub sandbox games, so ive been crossing my fingers this one turns out to be something wo...
Very true. The space sim seems to have all but disappeared this generation. At one time the space sim was as popular as the FPS.
I reinstalled Freelancer the other day along with the Shattered Worlds mod for a graphics bump, and it still plays great. Now if only a developer / publisher could make something as easy to pick up and play as that game, but with the depth of the original Elite on C64, well that would be amazing.
I'll keep crossing my fingers f...
Most games feel too much like movies these days. They're too passive with barely a learning curve. They're just like Michael Bay movies, all spectacle and no substance.
So yeah, imho games have become waaaay too dumbed down. While improvements are being made in some areas like graphics & audio. Artistic integrity, technical design and just that sense of being a video game has become lost.
Game-play wise, games as a whole have become much, much les...
Ubisux screwed over the WW2 authentic BIA franchise recently too. With that atrocious looking cartoon bullshit. And Splinter Cell.
They're getting really good at killing great IP's.
I'll continue to vote with my wallet.
"The point of a game is to have fun."
No. That is incorrect. The point of a game is to have an experience. That experience should deliver more than just one emotion. We should feel sadness, fear, stress, happiness, anger, regret, the whole gamut of emotions we feel when we watch movies or read books. Most games are just attempting to reproduce the one emotion, and failing to realise that the audience want more than just the elation of shooting faces and making explo...
According to BioWare an RPG is about shooting things.
So whats a shooter about?
I really dislike what has become of BioWare.
Extremely bored of them... and every other shooter (homefront) that copies them. Sure the game visuals and mechanics are always polished, along with the presentation always being impeccable, even the stories are mostly okay.. even good sometimes, but the game-play is so very stale at this point in time. Its the same old thing time and time again, and that scripted linearity and the illusion of war it creates just doesn't fool me any more.
I think most folks who play CoD ...
No so much its edge as lost its RPG.
There are and will be better shooters than ME3 on the market. And tbh with a shooter, I want a slightly brisker pacing than sitting around in-between combat to chit chat with NPC's. Thats the sort of thing I like in RPG's.
And if they wanna make proper shooters then they should just go ahead and start over with a first person shooter, without all the clunky mechanics left over from their RPG design roots.
I'm so pissed off about this. I cant believe they would do this to a great franchise. They messed up with BIA hells highway by newbiefying it, and it ended up selling like crap. Now they're changing it completely with a crappy looking immature Inglorious Bastards / TF2 / Brink style spin-off. They should have just stuck to the original great formula. I'm sick of these meaningless and obnoxious kiddie games like Duke, Brink and Bulletstorm. They're suffocating the FPS genre at ...
Its terrible. I had a lot of respect for Gearbox before this. I thought they always treated their fans well, but what they have done here is take a great big steaming dump on one of their most loyal fan bases that has been with them for years. Its not fair to those BIA fans at all. I wont buy this game. And go to hell Ubi, thats another meaningful and worthwhile franchise you've managed to ruin.
Did that guy just make up Randy quotes at the end? lol
He says I can imagine Randy saying, then makes a fake quote... Now I'm no professional but im pretty sure that's slanderous. So maybe this particular journalist (more like blogger) will be held accountable, but not for the ridiculous reasons he brings up in this article.
Heh. maybe I'm just reading it wrong. I'm no Duke fan myself, but I hardly have a grudge against the guy, which is what ...
The screens look pretty good. Ima big Aliens fan, but a lot of the reviews make this game sound too familiar. A bit too Doom 3 generic corridor shootery. I hope its more than that. Aliens could really use a good game after all the disappointments. They just need to make it stand out more from the crowd.
