Gameplay feels a bit too streamlined and dumbed down. Its still good, but its not as fun as Oblivion and Fallout 3 was. I know FO:New Vegas was done by Obsidian, but the hardcore mode really lifted that game for me. The added complexity brought a very fulfilling game experience, and its why i'm still playing it a year later. Dont think i'll be playing skyrim much longer after the main quest.
My score is similar. I gave 6/10 because I love FPS, but the truth is I am pretty jaded on the CoD / MW brand at this point. They milked it too much that each new game feels almost identical to the last.
I think there is a good portion of gamers out there that like new experiences and if games don't deliver then it gets them riled up.
So if the scores are low, then Activision only have themselves to blame I am afraid. You know if they'd put every 2nd ...
Unless the patch involves an update (complete overhaul / replacement) of the shitty linear onrails campaign then I am not interested.
Article is spot-on imo. The Online pass was a really bad idea. We cannot even access the coop mode and play it single player without an online pass or xbox live gold membership.
The single player campaign is awful and represents everything that is bad with on-rails linear game design. I hated all the recent CoD's and this is even worse.
Many BF fans keep saying "you have to remember its all about teh MP!" But that isn't true anymore, because...
Agreed 1000%
There are three gamers in our household each with their own xbox and profiles. We all chip in to buy games every month, but with these online passes only one of us gets to use the locked out content. We brought the game brand new! It aint fair that two of us dont get to experience it unless we fork out another $10 each. I'm sick of it.
If he didn't play it the entire way through and then some. Preferably at least twice to be sure he fully understands if the game has a slow burn quality to it or not, like Dead Island or other lengthy games that don't have instant arcade appeal, then I don't care about his opinion on the game, whether its positive or negative. I only care about reviewers opinions when they have thoroughly explored every aspect of a game, which is something that doesn't happen often these days ...
Only 2 hours?
Its a BIG.. game. 2 hours might be enough for a typical first person shooter, but big games such as DI needs time to simmer before you can truly appreciate it. :)
If you don't like it after 10 hours of in-game time, then I guess its probably not your thing, but 2 hours isn't enough to get a feel for the game.
I think I started really liking it at about the twenty hour mark. Before that I was pretty sceptical. Ive since f...
Very good game. Buggy as hell yes, but still lotsa fun.
Its truer to a proper zombie survival game than you'll find anywhere else.
I thought that was the point of the entire cast tbh, for them to be the sort of larger than life, over the top, loud obnoxious, WWE sweary meathead stereotypes, that appeal to a certain demographic of gamer kids.
That is what I thought the writers were aiming for.
I know L4D has a great many fans, but as a gamer who prefers a bit more than just rushing from A to B, shooting thousands of easy to kill zombies, I can honestly say I wished I'd never handed over my cash for that game, since I only played it briefly for the first two weeks and once my gaming buddy and myself had finished all the campaigns, which we did in a weekend, we never played it again. Its just gathering dust on my shelf because it requires more than one player for it to be even sl...
Its not true to the originals, but it is looking like its going to be a nice change of pace to the routinely linear shooting gallery shooters.
I'm really intrigued by the aliens. Their designs are really unusual and different to the monster designs you often get in sci-fi games.
Edge have by far the worse reviews. Those guys are utterly clueless when it comes to video games. I havent seen a single review that I agree with in the last three years. They're a joke.
According to posts on the gearbox forums it sounds like acid blood does damage the player. Just not during the quick time events or cutscenes.
I'm more worried about the gearbox devs saying they are making this accessible to casual gamers?!
Say what?
Yeah they said they "want it to be really accessible."
If any game or movie franchise has a hardcore gamer following its Aliens. Trying to appeal to the casual cro...
"I miss the days when an 8 was considered a good score......"
It still is for most of us.
Anyway 9 is the new 8 according to some reviewers out there. Gears has always been rated too highly.. well in my opinion. Probably not shared by everyone, but its just not my thing.. I prefer first person shooters with less gung ho WWE swearyness teen anger on steroids, but I have played GoW 1 and 2 and my score was an 8 for both of them. Good games but not cla...
I really disliked the story, writing and characterization in Crysis. So its not something I personally want to replay again on console. Just was a lot of pretty looking open space with nothing to do in it. Though I got to say, there was a couple of nice missions somewhere in the middle that were less linear than the others and really opened up the gameplay. If the entire game had been more like that, then I would have liked it a lot more. So console gamers aren't missing much.

Glad they are going back to the roots of the franchise. F4 looks like a collection of bad Ubisoft ideas thrown into a pot.
Same with Colonial Marines. Sounded good back when gearbox first talked about it, but from what I seen recently it looks like another dumbed down for the masses AvP or COD in space rip off. Authentic yes, but interesting to a hardcore gamer, a most definite NO. Not at all what I expected from gearbox. Since they always catered more to the hardcore gamer ...
Oh man. They're taking out all of my favourite things. :(
Wont stop me from buying the game, but cant say its not a little disappointing. And yeah I know the reason, we can use funds to upgrade.. but still I really liked the way it encouraged me to use different weapons in Oblivion, rather than sticking to the same one all of time.
Not to mention that I just liked the idea of having to keep my weapons in tip top condition.
Looks amazing! Cant wait!
Well that was hmm, fun. Not so much for us watching though.
Battlefield 3's campaign was atrocious. If it deserves to be on any list, it should be worst FPS campaigns of all time list. The CoD/MW SP campaigns haven't been that great either since CoD2. And MoH was another short pointless campaign you would only play once.
Obviously BF3 and MW, both those games more than make up for the weak souse SP components with their fully featured MP. Which is the only reason to buy either of those games.
Most of everythin...
