"Only Sony appears to have a genuine commitment to making movies in 4k."
Sony is the only company to push true 4k blurays yet their own 4k device doesnt support it. The left hand doesn't know what the rig...
Doesn't play 4K bluray, no longer the console of choice. I want an all in one machine like I've had for the past 20 years. I waited for the neo before buying anything, now I'm disappointed.
For people saying its a games machine, it's not. It's an entertainment machine, it has 4K movie streaming and live streaming.
If you tell me to go buy a player, that is the don mattrick response.
Sony makes 4K bluray movies, but d...
That's not the point and you know it. What are you going to say when movies are native 4K???
You nailed it. That is what Sony upgraded their monitor to support back in April.

"Go buy a bluray player" Is the Don Mattrick response for PlayStation.
"Go buy a bluray player" Sony's is Don Mattrick response.
You can't fix missing hardware with a software update.

This isn't Walmart dictating to companies what they are going to sell and how much they can sell it for. It is an agreement between the two. Devs create the product and decide which platform they want to release it on. The platform owners allow/deny content or sometimes actually ask devs to bring their content to the platform. Devs have the leverage at the end of the day due to their being competition, so Sony won't be able to bully them into eating costs to support a feature that sat...
so no 4k bluray player in the touted 4k console that plays 4k games and streams 4k content until at least 2019.
smart move, no seriously.
smart move not offering something your competitor does at a cheaper price today.
smart move forgetting your base contains moderate amount of videophiles.
smart move neglecting those very same videophiles who have always payed extra for the bells and whistles.
smart move leaving 4k out in your premium console just...
my question is why would a dev ever patch their old game for hdr. If sony is asking them to patch, but they have to eat the cost, theyll likely say go f yourselves.
when it comes to 4k br you cant have a software update for a hardware problem.
sony will not have a 4k bluray player until 2018 at the earliest vs xbox having 4k bluray today. movies will come, sony should have future proofed themselves. its going to be a rough 2 years.
So on the "sony side of things" (they can have that one for free) game consoles and video formats have always gone hand in hand. Even if my expectaions were incorrect, the target audience for this console are videophiles. Its already back-lashing against them all over blogs and forums. You cant go 5 posts in without someone mentioning theirs no 4k bluray and it completely derails the forum. It is a bigger deal than the people on n4g think. Because the perception is that Sony is blur...
If ms (or Sony) was able to package up their Game os and sell it as a stand alone or as a dual boot option with Windows 10 I think it would remove the need for consoles all together. To me that seems like where we are heading. The new ps or Xbox would literally be pcs similar to Alienware alphas
I agree. And I said what I am about to say in a different post as well. UHD is about to take off. The fact that sony will not have a uhd player intergrated in their game system until earliest 2018 (thats earliest) is a complete megaton of a mistake. This christmas will prove how much of a mishap this all is when little johnnys mother goes to the store, sees an Xbox one s next to a slim and pro, and asks the clerk whats the difference between them. It will go something like this
You guys have the dumbest argument ive heard. Its so obvious yet you want to put blinders on because you hate to admit sony made a mistake. The Ps4 pro is being marketed as the premium 4k device. 4k was thrown around throughout the meeting. It supports 4k gaming, 4k streaming, but not 4k bluray? if that makes sense to you then i can tell you were the people who supported hd-dvd and said it didnt matter once the format landed on its ass. The price should have been upped $100 and it wouldnt mak...
First of all hdr is a standard, there is no such thing as true hdr. the color gamut varies depending on which standard you support, in addition the hdmi port may not need to be 2.x to support a standard of hdr. that being said, sony will probably implement hlg hdr as they have upgraded their own tvs to support this standard. hdr10 has a higher adoption rate but that doesnt equate to one being more true than the other.
