I never played this, but I always thought it was pretty cool seeing free weekly character additions on PSN - and it was like for ten weeks straight I'd see character packs of four being released. Crazy
At least they supported the heck out of the game. It kind of reminds me of Burnout: Paradise before they started charging for DLC.
This is all my view from the outside looking in, but I'm sure fans of the game appreciated it.

Now if S-E up dated just the visuals, with no story changes, I'd have no problems. I remember when Square used an updated 3D FFVI demo to showcase the Nintendo 64, before jumping to Playstation. I was giddy :D
Maybe - MAYBE - add more of Shadow's back story (they give a glimpse of it during a dream sequence), update dungeons / puzzles giving more opportunity to split your all of your characters into two or three tea...

I wouldn't care if Square offered the option for consumers to pay half of the game price in advance to help fund the project, then pay the rest upon the game's release in 2-3 years -- giving exclusive content, perks, weapons, DLC discount, whatever to those who donated early.
And those who didn't could still buy the full game and extras at a premium.
Will it ever happen? Nope...

S-E always tries some new combat system twist each FF, so I was open to it
Where FFXIII fell apart for me was that busted story.
It truly felt gutted and hacked to sh!t; like all of the character development was ripped out of it.

I can hook my PSP up to the tv, but it's still not the same. I'd rather use a dualshock controller given the choice
As soon as I got out of the sewers, I just jumped into all of the side-quests, guild quests, dungeon exploration, etc that I could.
I have my Gray Fox cowl, became the Arena grand champion, fully leveled up, easily drained over a 100 hrs into the game, caused wide spread chaos in towns, and I don't think that I've seen one Oblivion gate open up yet.
That's how amazing this game is.
