I agree it is short sighted. The counterpoint to that is a bird in the hand is worth two in the bush. You can't really expect businesses to give up a good thing just in case the market changes. Businesses react to the market not the other way around.
The only thing I hate is the melee system. There is no autolock for melell and they are not OHK. I'd prefer OHK over autolock because it is annoying chasing after someone hitting them 5 times just for them to die. I know it's more "realistic" that way, it still makes etting the melee medal a pain in the ass.
I think that's why some people play it for laughs: Because it is so fvcking stupid. It's sort of like watching a sh1tty movie because it's so horrible and then never speaking of it again. Not that I've played it, just a guess as to why someone would play it for laughs.

Publishers are businesses. They look to make the most amount of profit with the least amount of risk. Every business tries to do this. It sucks for gamers because it leads to crap like Tony Hawk 37 and Madden 1000000000. The other part of the problem is that most people don't buy new IPs. Only about 5-10% of new IPs become franchises. If people would buy those games as much as they buy COD 19, then publishers would be more willing to take risks.

Do you realize how fvcking stupid that idea is? Humanity cannot destroy the planet. If giant fvcking rocks from space 6 miles in diameter can't destroy the planet, nothing we can do is going to hurt it. All we can do is fvck up the environment so it becomes inhospitable to human life as it is right now. Call it like it is.
As far as the regenerating health is concerned, I think people need to calm down a little bit. Yeah it's kinad of bullshit, but games aren't meant to be realistic, because if they were, pretty much one one would put you down. Is there a better way? Probably. Personally, I liked the self healing bit in Far Cry 2. It's just too bad it was so cheesy.
I think the biggest missed opportunity was not having faction quests. The best part of Oblivion was the Dark Brotherhood quests, especially the one where you were locked in a house and had to kill everyone without anyone noticing. The only good mission like that in Fallout was the tranquility lane quest.
