I wouldn't be surprised to see 8 gb in both systems. Apple has set a precedent with apps and how fast they load as well as multi-tasking. Most consumers now expect seamless loading and multi-tasking. I am sure there will be even more intensive apps on the new systems.
You mean innovation by Sony coming up with difficult-to-program-for architecture that set them back a few years until developers got familiar. Oh and Move as well as an easily hacked online infrastructure, ok.

The next Xbox has to be coming in 2013. There is no way Microsoft would leave money on the table in 2013. Microsoft will announce some exclusive Arcade titles and some 3rd party stuff but the AAA titles will be reserved for next gen.
Look at what our consoles are doing right now with only 512mb, some pretty amazing stuff. Can't wait to see what consoles are doing with 8gb.

I agree about the backwards compatibility. Hope we can also import our gamer profiles so the arcade games can be redownloaded. I also heard a rumor awhile back that MS was looking into up-rezing 360 games on the new console which would be pretty sweet. I have too many games that I need to finish.

The next Xbox Dev kits have been out longer than the PS4 dev kits, so it looks like it will be Xbox first.
The fact that it is the TV division that is at fault doesn't matter, This will affect the company as a whole and that means the games division. Now Sony can not possibly afford to have a high end expensive gaming system next gen compared to what they did with the PS3. This is a result of arrogance and resistance to change.
Apple did it with there iPad 3rd gen and 4th gen releasing within 7 months of each other. It happens, it's just a matter of if you are willing to piss of your customer base.

I don't know they just released the dev kits and the final dev kits won't be out till spring of next year. It is looking more likely that it will be released in 2014.

Sony are stubborn fools. They need to admit they priced the Vita too high and cut the price. Seeing as how they supported the PSP, fool me once. They are now up against the Nexus 7 and other cheaper tablets, which while not dedicated gaming systems, come close and are much more versatile.
Considering that phones are now clocking in with 2 GB of RAM, I think 4 GB should be the minimum.
