In SQL Server, you press a few magic buttons and index recommendations are made for you.
In MySql, you make indexes manually and pray.
Until open source creates software for dummies, I will always crave the Microsoft touch.
Here are my predictions.
1. 100% Downloadable games to a Hard disk (no more CDs)
2. 100% Backwards compatible
3. Two analogue sticks
4. Probably faster cpu and better screen, but not too much... keeping cost down is probably a bigger priority.

Imagine there was no GTA 1-3 and developers went to a publisher saying "we have this concept for a new type of game called GTA based on a Russian thug... all we need $20 million to make the game and another $10 million to create the GTA brand awareness... hello, publisher?
Create a first great game on the cheap. Upon success, you get more money to really make something special.
Microsoft, win back the world's love by giving a $20 upgrade for disenchanted (right or wrong) Vista users.

Microsoft OS's are like Star Trek movies... every other one is good! :)
All sources indicate that Win7 is FASTER than XP and just as stable.
This is great news for Microsoft! Let's face it, they really needed a winner this time.
I would suspect that the game companies (specially Sony) will choose a relatively cheaper chip rather that push the limits next time around.
But it's great that they are able to keep Moores law alive! At this rate, next-gen systems will launch with a 22nm chip!
