Servers for the game are going offline in March of 2011.
You can still play it offline. I always did. The online element is something other people enjoy so it's worth mentioning. The online element is not important to the game anyway I suppose.
In case you hadn't noticed it Penny Arcade jumped from over the fence to the side of the gaming industry a very long time ago. Now that they stand to directly benefit from the sale of new games suddenly people who buy used games are a 'problem' and made out to be idiots who don't know any better.
Does Nissan try to preach the virtues of buying new Nissan's from their dealers so we can directly reward the engineers and designers of their cars? Are used cars...
---"First off, the main concept behind FFXIV is allowing those players with little time on their hands to play effectively, and game balance is based off of that.---
No actually this serves one purpose and one purpose only: To prevent you from progressing too quickly. A lot of MMOs have methods that are designed to slow your progression and this is the one FF14 has chosen. Anyone who tells you anything else is either lying to you or being foolish.
The lo...
--title they’ll add satisfying gameplay and storylines into the mix, a la FFVI or VII.--
First of all there was nothing extraordinary about the game play of FF6, it was a good game overall but the game play was just bread and butter RPG by that point.
Second of all FF7 was garbage and had no redeeming qualities: The graphics were bad, the game play was passable, the story was practically non-existent and full of so many holes that it resembled certain cheese ...
In any other medium showing off your "creativity" by copying things other people created would be looked down on and yet somehow in games like ModNation or LittleBig Planet being a copy cat is the height of creativity.
The best carts and the best Mods in ModNation are original creations.
From the article: "What about the freedom of speech when it comes to this sort of issue?"
Even asking this question shows a complete lack of understanding of free speech. You are using Live or PSN? You are subject to their rules because it's their network. Using N4G as an example, why can you be banned, suspended or have your posts deleted here?
It's not your website and it's not your server. If they don't want what you posted on th...
If this isn't setting off alarm bells in your head then you either aren't paying attention or don't understand it.
He just referred to 'information' as a distraction, and implied that this distraction is putting pressure on the country. This reflects a mind set that should tell you that the man does not like uncontrolled information and consider some recent changes in rules regarding the internet you should be very concerned that in the not too distant fut...
We are falling behind academically and we still would be without video games. The reason we have falling behead is because our school system and the people that work in it are increasingly worthless. A long time ago we got in to this sniveling mentality that we're going to hurt somebodies feelings if we give them failing grades.
You will notice that other countries do not suffer from this problem they have a "Do your very best or get the hell out" mentality.
Is it well written and interesting?
Then I'd play it. I pay for and read books after all.
You know those people bound and determined to hack the PS3 no matter how much time it took or how much money they had to spend? Those "heroes" who finally cracked the nearly invincible PS3?
They would be the ones responsible for the loss of alternate OS. It's the classic case of a few bad people spoiling the fun for everyone. They were given something and promptly did everything they possibly could to ruin it for everyone in their blind pursuit of pirated softwa...
Nintendo screwed around for years in the NES/SNES days, pissing off game makers left and right then pulled some crap and tried to screw over Sony. These two actions resulted in Sony coming out and basically curb stomping the N64 with the Playstation.
But they weren't done yet of course as the curb stomping from before was only a warm up to the mac truck Sony used to run Nintendo over in the form of the PS2.
Even the Wii for all of its amazing popularity i...
A perfect list if ever there was one.
Okay, no Flash in the browser that is increasingly losing support and popularity to Firefox?
Kotaku is telling us not to trust other gaming news outlets?
That's like a cannibal telling you not to trust the guy eating steak.
Anyone remember the hoax video of the girl playing Wii Fit that was suppose to be a 'reason to buy your girlfriend a Wii', and it turned out just to be some marketing ploy?
I wonder...
Besides they make other kinds of 'toys' that could solve her problem.
Just like Age of Conan.. No wait, Warhammer... No wait... Aion...! No wait...!
Those girls need to put on some clothes.
Alliance are idiots, Horde are jerks.
That was not a slam of Killzone 2 in any way shape or form and if it was then it was also a slam against every other FPS game out there that doesn't have graphics on par with Killzone 2.
At worst it was a backhanded compliment in which somebody obviously thinks KZ2 is the standard to beat graphically.
In the context of a game? Sure why not.
In the context of if it were a real situation? There's no way to know.
What the 'No Russian' level was attempting to portray that was seemingly lost on so many people is a horrible concept: Would you do something as horrific as mass murder? If presented with a choice of killing dozens of innocent people yourself or refusing to do so resulting in the deaths of thousands of people at some unknown point and time in the future? Wh...
Every MMO I've ever seen that had huge issues in beta has had it's defenders use the 'It's still just beta!' line.
And they've never been right... Not even once. There has never been a MMO in history that was a mess in open beta only to fix itself by release. What you are seeing is as near unto a finished product as you're going to see without months and months and months of patches and updates.
You can keep thinking it's '...
