This is a problem? This has been done by virtually every new major game for years now. Dragon Age Origins was particularly notorious for it. Even the trailers for Dark Souls did it and that's a game with very little in the way of cinematics.

As soon as you make a 'top 10' anything about video games and anything from Final Fantasy 7 gets a spot on it your opinions are null and void from that point going forward.
And putting something from Final Fantasy 6 several points higher does not redeem you.
I've often said that while the long straight 'dungeons' of FF13 were a bit silly, would it really have been significantly improved by twisting them in the pretzels and adding some dead ends?
Also the vast explorable world thing does make me wonder too. Going back as far as Dragon Warrior, yes, there was a vast explorable world... With nothing but random monster encounters in it and no real reason to go back through areas you'd already gone through.
Clearly this studio couldn't find a way to generate a perpetual income system that their games could be built around...

I'm going to bet that a lot of complaints were faked up by whining people who in a poutrage over the fact that they're going to have to wait awhile for pirated copies.
The rest are the typical 'outrage' we've seen from other gamers over this. People who basically just can't accept the idea of 'If you don't like it, don't play it'. A lot of them knew what they were getting in to when they bought it but are pretending otherwise.

Haven't tried it myself.
Of the two people I know of online both have already uninstalled it.
One within 30 minutes of Beta starting, and the other within 3 hours.
Both are equally worthwhile and both are equally worthless.
Somewhere along the way most of the review sites turned just as bad and ugly as the fanboys. Possibly in an attempt to appeal to said fanboys, I have no idea.

Since when was romance required for art? I can take a look at a painting of some pretty landscape or a landscape rendered in a game and appreciate either one and I don't ask where the romance is.
Then again, if there was a 'no romance' option for games that contained it I would turn it on just to avoid the stupidity of having to try hard to avoid it.
WoW is part of the problem to some degree but the real problem is player attitude that was shaped by WoW.
Rush, rush, rush, and the only people you should ever have to actually talk to are people you know already. This completely wrecks any sense of community and when you factored in the cross realm battle grounds and dungeon crawls it put a final nail in that coffin.

Designing games purely for fans will kill a series almost as quickly as making poor design choices in a popular game series.
