Lol the 3DS XL looked like a fisher price toy. It made absolutely no sense; with the original DS, it started fat and cheap-looking, then they made it sleek and small (DS lite) and it was a huge hit. Then with 3DS they started small and sleek, then brought out the fat, terrible-looking version as a new model and people inexplicably bought it over the original version.
I don't mean this as an insult, because I think it is actually smart game design, but I think the target audience for Fortnite is people who either haven't played many multiplayer shooters before or have tried but have never been very successful. To a certain extent I think that's actually true of all battle royale games (people who would be bad at a team-based shooter and hurt their team's chances can camp out strategically and make it to the top 15 or 20 out of 100 and feel...
Switch hate is so weird. This coming from a guy who actively hated on the Wii at every possible opportunity.
I highly recommend this to anyone who happens to have a 3DS still who hasn't played it yet. To me it was the perfect blend of a the best parts of 2D and 3D Mario games.
Yeah it kills me how much people bend over backward to act like Bioware is a top tier dev. Mass Effect was cool in a lot of ways (world and lore of that universe are basically unparalleled) but it never felt good to play. People's complaints with Andromeda were the complaints I had with ME1. However, even assuming for argument's sake that the earlier games were great, I don't know why people continued to hope for Anthem after Andromeda.
2 reasons:
1. "Taking" an exclusive from "the other side." Probably inapplicable in this case because the game is relatively niche, but that is one reason.
2. People don't like not having the option to get a game. Once the game is available, you may decide you don't want it or that you can wait for a sale, but when you can't play it, it feels more alluring.
They are just very played out at this point.
You started off strong by being realistic about nothing being on the same level as Mario in terms of a name, then really undercut yourself by acting like Sonic is in the same bracket. Sonic has never been good, and even assuming for the sake of argument that the earliest Sonic games were good, it hasn't been relevant in 20+ years.
If this keeps up, the launch out of nowhere is going to look genius. If they had announced this months in advance, it would have gotten slammed for being another MT-laden BR. I'm sure I would have been among those criticizing it.
Just think, there's an alternate universe where TF1 came out on PS4 and Steam and TF2 had a decent release date.
1. There are no "generations" on PC, so there is no BC there. But obviously the ability to maintain a consistent library is cool.
2. When I say something is overblown, I mean people act like it is more important than it actually is. That doesn't mean it isn't important in the abstract.
Even as a person who thinks the importance of BC gets overblown, if sony came out and announced that you could put any PlayStation disc in your ps5 and it would play, that would be huge. People could say "well that wouldn't make them money," which may be true in one sense, but it would establish a ton of goodwill and probably would be worth it long term. A digital service, such as psnow, which had games from ps1-4 for download, would also be good move.
No, it's definitely better to have a large slice of a tiny pie than a small slice of a large pie.
Plenty of games launch now with significant bugs that require large day one patches. Without internet, you get an unfinished version of the game. In this case, it's only different in the sense that the story is unfinished, rather than the gameplay.
A lot of people in rural areas have limited internet that only allows access for posting comments about not having internet.
Exactly. Funny how so many people so concerned about not being able to download patches are always posting comments online.
I was unaware of this meme, so when I read this I thought it meant Shaggy who sings "It Wasn't Me."
Mid-tier devs are overestimating themselves by skipping out on Steam. It's one thing for Fortnite to say screw Steam (yes I know fortnite is terrible, but I can't deny its impact), but some people may just skip Metro: Exodus rather than go through the bother of downloading a new client and making a new account.
Yeah that's my point. Even when Xbox had a larger fanbase, these types of games struggled significantly. Now, with the fanbase about half of what it was, there's little point in even releasing them on Xbox.
I do wonder when the switch will get a price drop. I know it doesn't need one now due to strong sales, but imagine what it is going to do at $199. Heck, a Pokemon bundle under $300 woukd be huge.
