It's been happening for a few years now: some gamers have just become too whiny, too elitist, and too vocal for their own good. There are a few issues to his argument, though.
If you look on Steam, a lot of indie devs are having their games selling. Not completely. They have extended the life of certain games that are actually good (would you even go play that higher difficulty setting if there wasn't a shiny for you upon completing it?). People enjoy going after them, and they aren't going to die anytime soon. We should just get used to them being there (and really, it's not always a bad thing to have them in there).
Their hearts are in the right place, though, GreenRanger. They are trying to give people something in return for giving money to a worthwhile cause (something that they will no doubt buy anyway).

Nintendo ignored hardcore gamers this gen and only did a few good things for them this time around (Metroid Prime 3 and Other M).
Microsoft's only way to beat Sony was "me too" ware and making other consoles wait for games that were done because MS has to have it too while having nothing of their own outside of achievements to call their own.
