You won't have to worry about bricking, my inside sources say that Sony themselves are releasing an official version! This will be great because PS4 owners can use it as a workaround to play games only on PC & Xbox like Rise of the Tomb Raider & Cuphead! This can totally happen!

"I believe the Wii won last gen in terms of exclusives, even though a lot of them were crappy game."

How does that win them the gen then? I mean we aren't talking about sheer numbers here, because every system has its shovelware that no one in their right mind would go near. There has to be some metric for quality. Sony had an amazing & diverse lineup of exclusives last gen whereas Nintendo just had a few great installments in extremely long running franch...

Buying third party ip's is absolutely not the way to find success in the gaming industry. First off, it essentially does nothing but subtract from the overall portfolio as these games would exist w/ or w/o Xbox involvement, they'd be better served creating their own new exclusive first party IP's from scratch while receiving all of those third parties they already would.

Secondly, it's a huge gamble, because the name alone can cost 10x as much as it would co...

Nice, I'm gonna have to check out that article to see what all he says. I will say I appreciate the storyline we got, and I'm glad they didn't try to go grimdark w/ it & kill off characters. I feel like the revenge storyline would have been a bit more cliche honestly. That said I'm sure Amy would've knocked it out of the park, but I guess it's all down to whether or not she considered it a final installment.

I just feel l...

"Hopefully she can speak about what HER version of Uncharted 4 was going to be"

I would love to hear about that...1 thing we can definitely glean now that we've played UC4 & another that may have been alluded to, first off there were those pirate models spotted during the TLOU dev diary, and since we didn't see anything like it in Neil & Bruce's version, it seems likely that her take on the game featured a flashback to pirate times in some form...

"if they really wanted to represent genders equal...they should have removed the "Women must not get hurt" stereotype"

!Spoiler for UC4 &TLOU!

I'm sorry but did you even play the game or is your memory just fogged by your own agenda? Nadine got plenty hurt, she was slammed against walls, headbutted....Drake superman punched her through 2 floors into a free fall. Fairly certain all of that hurt. Ever played TLOU...

I mean honestly, can you not break down every game in existence like that? Also, would those other games essentially offer even less in terms of gameplay elements? Look at Halo, a hugely revered franchise that is essentially gunplay, cutscene, gunplay, cutscene, repeat.

Just give the game a bit of time. Scotland is the first proper level introduction to the story at hand, you aren't even halfway into the game yet, and you also haven't gotten behind the wheel of the ...

Totally agree. Other genres like Film, Television & Music have been around long enough to create an unwritten metric & set of standards that most enlightened reviewers seem to be clued into, typically landing most works at least in the same ballpark across the better review outlets. Games for whatever reason have none of that, and score vary more wildly across this medium than any other bar none. It's crazy too because this is also the only medium where technical stability is a co...

2 things not mentioned here that really caught my eye were the swarms of gnats & bugs that would fly around you in boggy areas, and also the give & sway of poles or trees you swing on. One section in particular where you are at the auction & swinging off of a brass pole anchored on both ends shows the pole bending with your weight more the further you get to the center. Just amazing stuff.

" In fact, Microsoft has probably killed the franchise and Square and Crystal only have themselves to blame."

Totally agree. MS are typically pretty great at marketing. It's just strange to me that a company w/ a history of very aggressive marketing would spend enormous amounts of money for a timed exclusive only to seemingly set it up to fail.

I honestly think that MS wanted their own Uncharted, and like you said, instead of funding a first...

Kudos to ND for their work, & Kudos to you for your own Genuine....maybe one day you can introduce some of your people to Uncharted!

There is something about that series & Naughty Dog's work in general that is naturally soothing. I came to Uncharted 2 & back to gaming in general after a long hiatus & a tough bout with addiction. There was a lot of chaos & conflict inside me, but Uncharted calmed that in an unexplainable way. Something about being tra...

Exactly this. There is this entire barrier of actually completing the game in question that is pretty vital. If a reviewer has zero skill, they have no shot at finishing something like Bloodborne. By the same token, for games that actually have difficulty levels, if a reviewer is bad enough at games to have to play everything on easy, he won't have the same experience that the typical gamer will have. Sometimes those levels eliminate entire encounters & completely change the pacing. ...

There has to be some level of skill for a reviewer. Not saying reviewers should be pro level, if anything just a common average skill level would be the most indicative of the average player.

That said, if a reviewer is horrible at playing games, how can they review something like Dark Souls 3 if they can't even complete it?

Virtually anyone can complete watching a film, but completing a game takes some level of skill. Understanding its systems &...

Have you played the other two Infamous titles? They are much longer & more involved. I personally really dug Second Son but mission wise it was a little lackluster compared to the other two.

As far as the maps & side content though, I gotta disagree about the size. The map was perfectly tailored to your powers & it made for a really fun time just traversing. I'd rather take a smaller map w/ unique areas & locations along w/ being packed to the gills with...

Exactly my thoughts...if it's entirely innocent & in no way meant to be deceptive, why is it that in most cases we don't ever see the actual game until it has launched? These days we get that first E3 gameplay reveal that floats around for months & sometimes years before a game releases, then when the game is launching, we get live action or CG trailers. Actual gameplay makes up around 20% or less in most game's marketing, and that is just a flawed system.

I'd need all of that, plus a meaty new piece of content never before released. Not reskinned missions w/ a thin story line, but a proper brand new section.

I've been a day one buyer of all things TR for a very long time now, but I can't support the idea of the franchise jumping ship at any given time. CD needs to announce something very special for PS players to make up for the move, otherwise I'll just wait for used. I've already been forced to hold off...

I personally wouldn't mind if it went a multiplat route, as long as SP is developing & they have full creative control w/ Sony & Marvel's backing, and as long as the Playstation version game doesn't suffer for being multiplat, the more the merrier.

More than anything I just want it to be true, I'm a lifelong Spidey fan & I've wondered what SP could do w/ the character since I played the first Infamous. Open world is key but I feel like it nee...

The point isn't whether or not people can have unpopular opinions, the entire point of this piece & the conversation at hand is that a reviewer back up his opinions w/ firm examples & they not simply say "I don't like this"

If a reviewer cannot properly express his ideas with words, he has no real business reviewing in the first place. That's the entire point really. I don't mind seeing contrarian viewpoints, and there are some reviewers wh...

I totally agree from top to bottom. A contrarian viewpoint can actually be a great tool for gamers to see an alternative to the popular opinion, but like you said there needs to be some substance to it. I get the feeling based off of the Thomsen pieces I've read that the guy doesn't have much of a connection to writing about games. He may love playing games & he may love writing, but that doesn't necessarily mean he should combine the two. Like you men...
