Yeah this gen there were not enough traditional SHMUPS like the Gradius, R-Types, Raidens, Strikers. Bullet hell shooters are cool but they aren't just as fun as traditional.
I wanna see an updated UN Squadron or Einhander!!
The only people that will ignore the impact of the PS2 are fan boys. It's a shame that a lot of people will think this way & look pass what the PS2 (as well as the PS1) brought to the industry.
Heck i am willing to say the industry is what it is now cause of the PS2.
The Sony ICE team are a bunch of wizards. They were the first to crack the PS3 & show what it is capable of. Working on the PS4 this was probably a piece of cake for them.
Oh man! Finally an old school SHMUP! How i miss these this gen. Too many bullet hell games & not enough traditional. I missed that tracking laser.
There f2p model for DOA is pretty successful for them on the PS3, a model that was not possible on the 360.
A big reason this could happen as well as with smaller to medium sized Japanese developers is that the Xbox brand is pretty non existent in Japan. With the overwhelming success of the PS4 right now these smaller to mid range developers may only go exclusive. Many of these games made by these developers only sell well in Japan so even if they are localized therest is l...
I look at it this way. The 'under the table' dealings that Microsoft & EA did behind Respawn without them knowing can be more of a detriment than a positive. If you wanna gain good relations with a developer the stuff that was rumored to go down may not be the way to get in the good books.
Sure Titanfall is exclusive now but once that deal is over who's to say that Respawn may want to rethink who they deal with. They can say all the right things now but if i w...
If it is true good on them and about time.
One thing still dogging is here we have an indie dev talk about how easy it is now but a few hours ago another indie dev is still questioning the 'parity' clause that Microsoft still employs.
So what is exactly the deal?
I really think that the recent earnings call that was released has a lot to do with this decision. Sony is still in the rebuild process & unfortunately for Sony Santa Monica this is the harsh reality of the business.
It's unfair, cruel & frustrating to hear talented people are out of work cause of the nature of the business. It was probably a very difficult decision for Shuhei & Sony to make the call to cancel the game & i bet that this wasn't their in...
A little is on Sony for their slow development of games from their 1st party studios. The price of the memory cards are still too high & Sony needs to make the decision to let 2nd hand partners to make the cards as well instead of proprietory.
Also it does not help that some media sites & sites like N4G with people constantly saying 'THERE ARE NO GAMES FOR THE VITA'. If i was an outsider visiting these sites & see words like no games then people will have ...
It sucks absolutely but I remember during a presentation by Mark Cerney that sometimes difficult decisions have to be made in game development.
He harkens back to his Sega days when games were greenlit all the time thus lowering the quality. Not saying this game is of low quality but somewhere during the development Sony saw something that didn't jive with them.
also Sony's latest earnings forecast may have factored into this tough decision. Sony is...
Like a lot of rhythm games this is going to be addictive and possibly really fun. It's the same team that works on those Miku games and after playing the heck out of project diva f, yeah addictive.
also more Risa can't be enough of a good thing!!
I believe the Japanese voice over is mostly done for the game when it was still scheduled for a PS3 release. I remember reading an article way back that Nomura said that the majority of the voice work has been done for the game.
Which makes me wonder that the game was probably almost complete before being announced for next gen. So that makes me think that the game may come out sooner than later. All depends on how fast Squarenix coders are from PS3 to next gen.
Well they can start with the music at least. It felt so nostalgic booting up FFXIV & hearing that classic Final Fantasy Prelude theme. Where was that in all the versions of Final Fantasy 13?
Akihiko Yoshida did a great job incorporating classic FF themes into FF14. I haven't felt such memories in a FF game in a long time & the music is a big reason for that.
Surprised nobody has mentioned the mediocre sales for Final Fantasy's latest installment. Going from 7+ million for Final Fantasy 13, to 3.5 million for Final Fantasy 13-2, finally to 1.5 million for Lightning Returns.
For a series that normally does millions opening week to becoming a niche is really sad. Being a fan of the series since inception this is really disheartening to see such a respected franchise has become a shell of its former self.
Other than Jim Sterling (who is a fan of Dynasty style games) the west does not think too highly of the genre.
Will it make any difference that this game will do well just cause it has the Zelda name to it? Perhaps but i will find it really hypocritical of journalist if Zelda Warriors scores high when all other Dynasty Warrior games are left in the 'mediocre' stage.
You do know that those 'sub par' indie games are also on the PC right? In fact these 'sub par' indie games originated on it.
Final blow? Dead? Microsoft in trouble?
Though i disagree with some of the tactics that Microsoft uses for their Xbox division, as a gamer seeing them in disarray is not fun. The same goes with Nintendo.
Even with all these dire news for Microsoft at the end of the day there is nothing wrong with finishing in second place to the Playstation. The momentum & goodwill that Sony has built for almost a year since the reveal is going to be a difficult task to o...
This is really shocking news! By the sound of things it looks like Ken Levine is kinda burnt out with AAA titles & the stress that goes along with it. Reminds me of David Jaffe & to a lesser extent Cliffy B.
I wish him & the remaining members of the team all the best & is certain they will find work quite easily with their resume.
Still i hope that the Bioshock world will live on in some form or another.
For the casual gamer the sharing function of the PS4 is probably one of the biggest reasons why the system is doing so well. This day & age it is all about social media & sharing your thoughts with those around you.
It is also an opportunity to make a name for yourself among your peers to actual show people around you your mad skills & whatnot.
I do not get this hype about Titanfall. Sure it looks like a great game but a game changer it is not. There have been many shooters in the past that incorporate mechs in their gameplay.
Killzone 3 had it, Black Light has it, heck even this Gundam game in Japan is doing it ( http://www.youtube.com/watc... Sure Titanfall is going to help the XboxOne but i am tired of hearing the game journalist stating i...
