Not my cup of tea, but a lot of other people's. My sister's family included.
are in the small percentage of exceptions. Face it, people of the world in general view game consoles as children's toys, not an adult hobby. That's the reality, deal with it.
Why are they celebrating the sale of the 1 millionth disk.....when there are 8 million players in the world?
Say your a studio boss and you want to sell a version of your movies to the owners of one of two mutually exclusive machines.
Do you pick the player that only plays movies and is bought by adults who want it in order to play movies and has a lower price and faster growth rate , or do you pick the player that 90% plus of the world considers to be a children's toy and is owned primarily by unemployed children?
I would think the choice should be obvious to anyone ...

That's why they don't buy games for their console. They have to wait for mommy to go to Toys R Us.
And serve as an example to others.
That tells me right off the bat your not the brightest bulb on the tree.
1080p TV. When are you yo yos gonna realize that the vast majority of HD tvs in peoples homes are 720p and 1080i?
A way for Hollywood to bring more sh!t in to the home.
You'll probably have grandchildren before they change. 720 and 1080 have been the international HD standards for 20 years, and look at the current penetration. Many broadcasters haven't even finished establishing HD broadcast capabilities (a significant number of smaller operations haven't even begun).
There won't be any move to increase the standards until the business has made back all the money (and quite a lot more) that has already been invested. And that will not happe...
to sales on standalone units than on game platforms, because they know in the long run the standalones will vastly out number the consoles. The BD group has already admitted, nay, bragged, that 3/4 of BluRay sales are on PS3s. That's not the best position to be in to start with. What studio wants to depend on unemployed children (face it, that's what most game console owners are.) for their sales?
Then, note that in the last month the number of HD-DVD players in the public's...
If you take out disk sales for the PS3 and count sales only for stand alone players, it still leads, as the BluRay group admits that 3/4 of their disk sales are on the PS3. Not a good thing as the movie studios place far more weight on stand alone units than multi-function game consoles. They know that eventually those standalones will out number the consoles by a huge amount.
Maybe because they're adults? Maybe because they have jobs and buy their own stuff? Maybe because like 95 percent of the people in the world over the age of 21, they think game consoles are for kids? Maybe they think a gameconsole in the entertainment center would embarass them when the neighbors come over? Maybe because they like movies and not games? Maybe they don't want their girl friend or wife to think they're a loser? Maybe they actually have a life?
The most recent weeks disk sales have gone from 3:1 to 1.38:1. That's pretty sad when there is a player ratio of about 4:1. Did you notice there are more Christmas sales for HD-DVD players this weekend and coming week? Let's watch what the disk sales do after all those gifts are opened on Christmas morning.
after Christmas. A LOT of those new HD-DVD players have been bought as Christmas presents. Their new owners haven't bought any discs yet, since they don't know they're new owners.
won't show up in full till after christmas. A large proportion of the player's recent sales (mabe even the majority) were no doubt purchased as christmas gifts.

but sadly it can be found here every bloody day.
I have the DIVX codecs and play back program from DIVX themselves on my computer, and even it can't play all DIVX encoded files. If the files weren't created properly to begin with its pretty much hit or miss if any given program will play them.
It's been around some years longer than the XBox. I guess your vision gets blurred when your head is in your ass.
