but over the last 20 years this form of forcasting has proved to be the most accurate anyone has ever developed. It's been used successfully in everything from predicting the stockmarket to predicting elections and Oscar winners.

Costco and Sam's Club have a $399 bundle containing the 360pro with Forza 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance, an extra wireless controller, a charger pack and two rechargeable battery packs. Great deal, recommended.

Bundles like this are showing up all over the place for christmas.

It's nice to see some one here with a grasp on the concepts of 1+1=2 and proportional growth, unlike about 90% of the sites members.

It's a comment, I think, on the school system teaching about global warming and saving the rain forest, instead of how to read, write, and use simple math. Of course that is how you produce serfs for the masters.

There are about 12 times as many Blu-Ray players in existence as HD-DVD players; Blu-Ray sales are about twice those of HD-DVD, therefore the attach rate for HD-DVD has to be 6 times that of Blu-Ray. The story says 3.8 to .6; thats pretty damn close to 6 to 1. A little better actually.

it's finished and sent to the production facility. Know what your talking about before you put your foot in your mouth, it makes it less likely to meet some one elses foot coming the other way.

Okay that's a good thing. The next seven titles COMBINED only outsold Transformers by about 5 points? Not so much.

2 of them at Walmart for under $20. Nice.

I'll probably pick up Shrek3 later this week.

@MR: And how many Blu-Rays did you buy? BLU-Rays attach rate aint cuttin' it.

But maybe.

I'll bet though, that you won't get a good answer.

My guess is that even though there are more studios supporting Blu, they're still a little wonky about throwing the money into it without more surety of being right. Then there is also the low number of Blu-Ray production facilities, while HD-DVD can be manufactured on the same equipment as DVD's with only minor upgrades.

Edit: the submission button is hosed. Needs to be fixed.

there would be more than a couple of hundred thousand in the world. Unfortunatly for you, by the Blu-Ray associations own count, there isn't.

Not bad. Especially since before high def DVDs were selling at a rate of about 65% for Blu-Ray and 35% for HD-DVD. The increased base should kick it closer to 50/50.

A no doubt wasted edit at Schmee: Yes the PS3 is increasing too. but the very simple math shows it takes 8 PS3 owners to buy as many movies as 1 HD-DVD owner. And a question. If Blu-Ray standalones are selling so well, how come there is less than 250000 in the world?

There is absolutly nothing new there.

The sub-$200 players are 1080i. The high end players are 1080p with more features than blu-ray and are STILL cheaper.

Could it be because......it didn't manage to even match Transformers first day sales? In fact its overall first day sales were only a third of Transformers'. Yup, thats gonna shift some units, right there, I tell ya.

I was generously rounding up the figures for standalones and addons. If the numbers are lower, then the ratios are even worse for the PS3. To double the movie sales on the PS3 using my numbers, you have to sell another 6 million. That will happen, but not real soon. To double the sales of HD-DVDs, you need only sell half a million. If Walmart had had enough in stock, that could have happened today. With the sub-200 dollar price point, I will be very surprised if it doesn't happen before...

Let's do some arithmetic.
1. There are about 6 million PS3s in circulation.
2. There are about 250000 standalone Blu-Rays in circulation.
total: 6.25 million Blu-Ray players
3. There are about 250000 360 add-ons in ciculation. Add-ons count the same as a standalone player since they're sole purpose is to play movies.
4. There are about 250000 HD-DVD standalone players in circulation.
total: .5 million HD-DVD Players

There are 12.5 time...

The HD-A3 is a 1080i player. It's the 3rd generation model of the HD-A2. It's a good player but if you insist on 1080p you'll have to go to at least the HD-A30.

there's a lot of "low class" people driving Mercedes' and Beemers. A few Porshe SUVs too.
