No they didn't. The original statement was that a person had to buy a game before Sony could to start make money of each console sold. That does not imply a $60 loss because Sony does not make $60 off a game sale, even the games they sell that are from first party developers. For the majority of it sales Sony only makes 30% or $18 of that game. And even that $18 does not take into consideration that the operational expenses that store takes of that $18 or taxes from the sale of that $6...
SIE is from the same place. It is not a division but a subsidiary; an American company fully owned by Sony.

Yup so much better on PSNow you get to play those four years of F1 Racing that PSNow has (2103-2016). So worth paying for PSNow for that goodness. Sony just pads their PS4 game numbers on the service with the same game over and over. And at the end of the day Game Pass (that so sad of barely anything to play service /s) has only one version of that same game (again so sad only one version - those Xbox peasants). Of course, it is F1 Racing 2017 a newer version but who would want to play a mo...
Oh goody, another person using some using a report done for the quarter after Game Pass was released last year as a fact of anything. A report that admitted it wasn't actual revenue numbers from Sony directly because Sony doesn't publish PSNow revenue numbers but, hides them within PSN service revenue. So it was a guestimate. More importantly, Sony themselves said they only have 700,000 subscribes on PSNow at the end of 2018 which makes those report revenue numbers off by quite a bit ...
Yet the rumors, back at the beginning of the year, had the next Xbox having RT long before Sony even mentioned it as a feature in the PS5. So, I hardly see it not having some form of RT a well. And 3D what? Audio? The X already has that today. And when the rumors had an NVMe in the Xbox everybody laughed it off as an impossibility. Now for some reason, both of these are options are no longer so ludicrous after Cerny's comments. And I bet that basic RT is built-into Navi and both will ha...
@Shane Kim
Kodera is no longer in charge of SIE. The head of SIE is Jim Ryan. His counterpart is Phil Spencer not the CEO of Microsoft. Nadella's counterpart at Sony would be Yoshida. Kodera is now the Deputy VP. Essentially he and Ryan switched job titles. It is not really a demotion (so they say). Because they are focusing more on networking/services Sony explains that Kodera's new position is a better fit for him.
@SolidGamerX
And those numbers were made up by the research firm (it was guesstimate). They admitted so in the report because Sony does not release revenue numbers for PSNow but bunches it in with PSN related revenue. So stop using a BS report of proof of anything. In fact Sony recently acknowledge PSNow after 5 years of service has 700k subscribers. And if you took the revenue value for that from the report it came to more than double the number Sony actually says they have (now) f...
I bet you haven't even tried to us PSNow on your Sony Bravia TV. How much you wanna bet that it won't work? You willing to take that bet? Maybe if you have a time machine, Considering all devices that had PSNow, other than the PS4 console and Windows PC, were removed from the ability to use the game streaming service over 2 years ago it isn't going to work out well for you when you try.
@SamPao
I don't think that is as positive as you think it is. The way I understand the Sony numbers that year to year growth of 40% for 2018 is primarily do to the ability to download software to play locally. Which is Ok, not great but not horrible (at least it grew from 2017 to 2018 by supposedly 200k).
To be honest if in 5 years (released 2014) it they really meant it mustered an average of 40% per year that total now only equals 700,000 subscribers that i...
Yeah, yeah bad Microsoft. /s Hey how are those cloud saves working for you on the PS without Plus? Every system has plus and minuses that the others systems don't have or even have to pay for (like F2P multiplayer on Xbox or cloud saves on PS) And Netflix? What does that have to do with anything? You don't need Gold to use Netflix.
Why would anyone read another post if they haven't even taken the time read the article they are posting a comment about as it seems many here have done?
Except it sounds like you are cherry picking. Not everything is about PlayStation and no where in that article did attribute loss in profits to next-gen development (operating expenses). That seems to be your own belief. The article talks about an anemic CEO (who at one time as CFO was very responsive in the turn around but has done little since becoming CEO to continue making tough choices) and further notes calls by activists invstors (who are increasing their stake in Sony) to force mo...
@rainslacker
"They call out MS for their attempts at UWP locking content into a closed ecosystem."
Awe the irony. Tim called out UWP yet he had had to actual appologize (from those crazed tweets he had) because his rants against the Windows store itself (and UWP) was proven wrong (by multiple sources and multiple times). At the end of the day the only person that has created a walled garden (closed ecosysytem) and has bought up and locked actual content. that ve...
@FlameBaitGod
Revenue is not profit. At a minimuim 70%+ (after Steam takes their 30% or less cut) of that revenue goes to pay back publishers from game sales (that is 2.8 billion haircut right there) and add to that additinonal operating expenses (servers, support, etc..) that takes away a nice chunk of change more from that revenue number. I assume Steam still makesa good healthy net income from that revenue after expenses but nothing anywhere close to $4 billion. If revenue is...
@Concertoine
And that matters who has more billions why exactly? If it matters to you then you probably should get behind team Tim Sweeney because he is worth over twice what Gabe Newell is (8 billion vs 3.8 billion)
I think the point is according to revenue numbers the attachment rate on the Microsoft gaming appears dramatically higher compared to Sony gaming. If software sales per owner were similar to the actual population of consoles sold then knowing Sony has (by estimates) at least twice the number of consoles sold its revenue should be also twice the revenue as well ($19.6 billion). Rather than just 33% more revenue.
As for Tencent, there is a reason they are making large invest...
Be careful telling people they don't know what they are talking about. You apparently don't know what you are talking about either. As you are just as wrong as @DillyDilly is or just as right. The NA Nov 17, 2006 release of the PS3 was a two SKU release. $499 for the 20GB version and $599 for the 60GB version.
I am confused about what exactly Sony came clean about. Navi and Zen were both expected. Did anybody expect anything else? It the PS5 was not at least BC with the PS4 it would have been a slap in users faces and possibly a disastrous move, especially with the Xbox most assuredly being BC. So, BC with PS4 was expected. I guess the SSD was somewhat a little unexpected but many of the rumors had an SSD in them and he only gave us a little tidbit about its possible influence in the machine (Spid...
@Ricegum
I didn't know the PS5 was out already. /s By the time the PS5 actually arrives the 7nm Zen 2 would have been out a year. The PC would be running on some 16+ core and a much faster Zen 2 long before the PS5 hits the market and most likely getting ready for Zen 3 (arriving in 2020). And full on SSD has been available as a standard option in laptops and PCs for at least 5 years now and with PCI 5.0 finalized this year expect PC to take advantage of it next year. I have n...
