No, using one the announcement video I can with almost (fanboy) certainty (which is 50% of reality) say Scorpio will be using Vega. Even though everyone wants to speculate about want the Scorpio is or isn't the only true things announced in the Microsoft video were at least 6TFLOPS and a 320GB/s memory bandwidth. The Polaris (480x) tops out at 265GB/s memory bandwidth. Where as, the Vega is expected capability to reach 4 times hat (1TB/s). I think using less (Vega) is much easier/safer ...
You know it goes both ways. Don't you think Microsoft knew exactly what the Neo was made of and when Neo was planned to be released? So, Microsoft decided to step over all any Neo rumors at E3. It worked. We are all talking about Scorpio whenever we talk about Neo.
Also the Vega chip the Scorpio will probably be based one is not officially out until next year. Polaris doesn't have anywhere near the memory bandwidth mentioned in the announcement video.
I don't see why not. I have a Xbox and plan on getting a Slim. Why? Because I also have a 4K TV and would like to take advantage of those video features the Slim provides (4KUHD disc playback and HDR). Doing so is, as anybody that has looked into a player, are about as cheap as buying a 4KUHD Blu-player on its own. Even though I think white is nice I may wait a month or two and see if they do a black/dark grey version. Heck, I am going to be doing the same thing with my PS4 and Neo and...
If you are going to use numbers from current consumer pricing you really need to plan for the most likely graphics chip. Figure out pricing with Vega not Polaris. Polaris doesn't have the capability of 320GB/s memory bandwidth that Scorpio will have.
Even if you do try to determine pricing for a device 17 months I don't ever seeing this device being anything over $599. Neo will probably be similarly priced $550-$599 (and cheaper by Scorpio's release)

Adding more standard GDDR5 memory because it suddenly dropped in price is quite a bit different than upping the specs of customized silicon. I don't think people understand how much development is done on every level when something like this graphics APU is integrated into a new device. Not saying it is not possible, just saying not with a lot of heavy lifting that may delay a products schedule. Thus throwing off their plans. Assuming they do decide to make increases they would have had...
So let me get this straight. Your PC is not used for anything else it is just attached to the TV? I hardly see the fun using actual applications on a 75" from a couch. Or do find yourself having to unhook & hook it back up that PC every time you want to do something more productive?
Hook-up to TV, run interfaces not designed for large screens (unless UWP), requiring a mouse to move around easily if using Windows. The unhook it move it back to your bedroom/offic...
I believe the definition of console generations is an old one that is going bye-bye, fini, caput, adios. Why? Because at least two of the three, Sony and Microsoft. have established each of their machines will continue to be based on x86 and keep their perspective OS (FreeBSD Orbis and Windows).
If there is this new 3 to 4 year gap between big jumps we have to rethink what defines a console generation. There will be no start from scratch because of a completely new arch...
Yeah it may be a smaller game but, this is also a Play Anywhere game. So, being cheaper on one platform Windows vs Xbox doesn't work. If there were pricing differences people would just buy the cheaper PC version from the Windows Store and then have a Xbox version as well.
Wait! They were going to release a model with a 4K Ultra HD drive in 2013? Imagine how expensive that would have been considering 4KUHD Blu-ray specs weren't released until Sept 2014. And 4KUHD players truly didn't enter the commercial market until 2015. Was this model in 2013 also going to have HDR gaming too? That is fantastic to hear as well /s I wonder why they didn't. Oh yeah, it was not possible at the time. Let se...
No, he is right. I have been in the Preview for over 2 years now and this store update is probably wonkiest thing I have had to deal with. It is slow to display and slow to move around in. Graphics don't show up, then do. Buy/Play button is 50-50 if it will show it's face on a product page. Movement/Visual cues have a completely different feel then the Xbox UI in general. Like how the Store top titles use boxes to surround selections, where everything else in the system uses under...
Windows 10 is not doing well? What wacko world are you coming from?
Just in gaming side, Steam announced in May Windows 10 surpassed Windows 7 as the number one OS used by it's customers. Windows 10 has 41% overall of Steam users. In 9 months it overtook Windows 7. Sure gamers tend to move quicker to new tech then most other category of users but, that is still pretty impressive for an OS that you think is not doing well.
And yet specs on Neo is a bigger leap then we saw from PS3 to the PS4. Neo isn't a slight change in graphic processing. For some reason the Neo at 2.5 times greater the PS4 is not a new console but Scorpio being 3.5 times more powerful to the PS4 is? I just find it strange when discussing PS4 people ignore that big of a change. So, in 2019 when possibly another PS iteration comes out and by chance it is only 2x more powerful as the Neo at 8TFLOPS is that just another console little ...
agame914 "PS4 neo which is not a true next gen system as far as we know" Why not? Why is that Neo which rumored to 2.5 times more powerful graphically then the PS4 not a new system? That is bigger jump than the PS4 had over the PS3. How would a year later the rumored specs for Scorpio being 3.5 times more powerful than the current PS4 make it a new generation when 2.5 times with Neo is not? If it is all about power, then each really is a new generation. They are part of the ne...
Yes assuming it was coming out this year, backing out to do a redesign people seem to have no concept at all of how much a move like this would financially affect Sony. We would probably talking hundreds of millions of dollars. First, the original development cost for a device is not chump change. Second, in order to get the best pricing possible they guarantee with most suppliers that they will buy X amount all written in contracts. AMD alone is probably guaranteed millions of chips. Su...
Exactly. I bought a 40" Samsung 4K UHD recently for $399 for my study. How is that too expensive compared to a PSVR. A similar Samsung TV but at 1080 was only slightly less at $300?
The other day, for my study, I bought a Samsung 40" 4K UHD on sale for $399 just for this exact purpose of using the Slim. I will be looking to buy a much bigger 4KUHD for the den (where my Xbox and PS4 are now) sometime next summer when I suspect there will be a much greater drop in prices for the big screens.
