Did I miss something? When was the Sony press release for the Neo? Yeah, not yet. So, still a rumor. Besides, it is not like Microsoft heard last month Sony was making an upgraded system and decided to make one too. These things are in the works for year or two before we even get wind of them through rumors.
True both could have stuck with the same consoles for 3 more years but, that would have been a mistake. With both consoles, the world around them is changing drama...
So is the PS4 Neo going to be $500-$600 at a rumored 4.1 TFLOPS? Remember Neo will be using a brand new AMD graphics chipset (Polaris or some modification of) that is just being released this summer. Along with the fact the PS4 Neo will possibly be year earlier then the Scorpio. So, if both systems are using a Polaris chipset and we are currently looking at a year difference in the release schedules that means by economy of scale and the AMDs own chipset release schedule both devices shoul...
Microsoft has had various VR projects in development over the years. Just because Sony is bringing out a device does not make Microsoft a follower. Rightfully cautious, probably. But we don't need to get into that "always a follower" crap because lists will start on each side of who did what first. By the way the keyword for the PSVR is bringing out. It isn't even here yet. Strange, the Oculus is already in stores. By your logic is Sony always a follower too?
...
I agree the X1 is not capable for pushing VR. Yet, you ignore the elephant in the room for the PS4. By all accounts the whole reason Sony is bringing out the update PS4 (Neo) is to have a more fluid PSVR experience. The Sony knows current PS4 even with their tricks to get it to work on the console is hamstrung by that systems weak overall graphics too. As for Neo don't believe this 4K gaming excuse. If Sony wanted to push 4K gaming they would wait a year or more like Microsoft until t...
Sorry, the silicon that either of these companies is going to use is already being (or has been) tapped out and will be in production soon. You can't just magically make millions of boxes a month or two before a launch (if the expected launch is going to be October) It is not like they make the APU chips at the same factory then install it in the machines on a one-by-one basis. There are so many pieces that must come together in the process of large rollouts. So many channels to suppl...
@Gol3m
Cretins? Apparently golems have a inability to understand what timed means. There is no legal contract that binds Hello Games to ever bringing the game to the Xbox. Like Tomb Raider there is a timed exclusive agreement.
According to Hello Games themselves - "We’re not currently talking about an Xbox One version of No Man’s Sky, only that No Man’s Sky will make its console debut on PS4"
Now do I think there these stories about a new Xbox arriving shortly with this type performance are true? Heck no. However, when you state there is no such thing possible today (especially in a small device) that is also not true. There are plenty of other examples of boxes that can ...
@S2Killinit
"I built a $2000 pc 2-3 years ago and i have to update the graphics card already for it to be anything special."
Seriously! You got worked over. There is no way you spent $2000 on a rig 2-3 years ago and it less capable then a mid-low end PC graphics card that is in the PS4 and Xbox One consoles. That is impossible on so many different levels a good card 3 years (in a $2000 rig) is still more than enough to drive a VR today. For that price ...
Do you just drop by this site once a few 6 months or you just oblivious to anything except your own rose colored glasses? If not you would have realized there was as much mixed reaction of over zealous uproar or glee back several months about a new Xbox. Many calling it the coming demise of consoles (Xbox specifically). It was so bad Spencer had to make some statements to calm (a minority of) users. Like with the PS4 Neo most people didn't and still do not give a hoot (because they ...
100 million is not to unbelievable to development and market a new game today. It may be rare to see budgets that high. However, games do have higher returns in shorter period than movies. Those vary same movies often take just as much (if not more) money and as much time to develop (3+ years on average). Three years ago GTA V cost north of 265 million to product and market but, make well over a billion.
Now that extreme production is not always the case. The original ...
Pricing itself out of business, why do think that? Most games aren't built with such elaborate development costs. The ones that do have high budget development costs are games like COD or Gears or Uncharted also have high returns as well. Take for example, Gears at the low end if Microsoft actually spent over a 100million on Gears (I doubt it was that much but lets say overall they will spend that much) that means they only need sell 1.7 million copies it makes back that investmen...
Sorry, like most people I can fantasize about a cool console powerhouse like you have presented. Unfortunately, that is just what it is a fantasy. First those specs sound like AMD 's Quantum Project (as it was announced originally and then shelved right afterwards - or reconfigured from consoles to a high end PC like device). Second, even if the recent rumors that AMD is restarting that project are true it still makes the device way out of the cost range for consoles for the next fe...
Monopolization, do you even know the definition of that word. Sorry, Sony is far from monopolizing this generation. Having a commanding sales lead does not mean monopolizing. I have yet to see that from Sony. Could you provide examples? This move by Sony more than anything is to support Sony's push to 4K media (which they both distribute through their film/media divisions, and through hardware e.g. TV) Doing so (like Blu-ray) means more money for Sony. If the rumored release date i...
You know the ones that get me is all the Apple placement on more TV shows than anything. I find it hilarious when I see Mac Books on all the desktops on several police shows. Yeah, that is believable.
@DeadlyFire >> AMD stated they would start producing next gen chips by 2018.
Not exactly true. The Zen chip will be released this year an scale down early next year. The Zen chips will initially be set for use in 2016 for desktop and servers. Considering the release of the Zen this is a tick year for AMD. That means next year is the tock year. So I don't know if that scale down means Microsoft might be willing to wait and use that chip next year or possibly ...
What same people are praising Microsoft but putting the hate on Sony for the same move? I know it may be hard to believe but, both sides have fairly strong vocal detractors in these rumored mid-gen changes and they aren't Xbox fans coming over to complain, they are actual PS4 owners complaining about this move. I have yet to see these Xbox users you speak of hopping the fence to call Sony's move a fail while thinking Microsoft mid-gen is the greatest move. Maybe I missed the week...
Wow that is pretty impressive writing a comment with your eyes closed. If I wrote your exact comment with eyes closed it would probably look like: " I hvei to belve thar s;; thisis hell ofd a bnightmrewill padd sa soom I iopn my eyes."
Silly me. What am I doing? You wont be able to read this comment you probably still have your eyes closed.
Sony TV's are far from garbage. Sure, the build quality has declined a little compared to years past and they are overpriced compared to similar TVs and in many cases out classed by competitors like Samsung. But, Sony TVs are definitely not garbage devices, not by a long shot.
@FlexLuger "I doubt sony will be able to stop devs from just building their games for the more powerful model"
How to stop? That is an easy one. It would just be similar to a parity clause. Sony controls the licensing rights to publish any game. Without obtaining those rights a developer cannot publish a game on their walled system. If they put in place the requirement in licensing rights that protects current PS4 gaming there is nothing a developer can publi...
