Gears of War 3 will sell 3+ million in its first week, i guarantee it. it will be the highest selling exclusive of 2011 on either the 360 or PS3.
"Microsoft didnt use HDDVD because it would have increased the price of the 360"
No, microsoft didnt use HD-DVD because the specifications for HD-DVD werent actually finished until LONG after the 360 went into production.
it was literally impossible for the 360 to launch when it did and also have HD-DVD playback in it. Microsoft knew that getting a headstart was more important than HD-DVD, so they released it instead of waiting 12+ months longer.
lol
the 360 had a ~8 million lead when the PS3 launched in late 2006. in the ~5 years since, the PS3 has clawed back roughly 5 million sales (this is going by both companies OFFICIAL sales figures, so dont shoot the messenger).
so at this rate its roughly 1 million a year. so with a 3 million deficit, it will take the PS3 around another 3 years to catch up. that will mean its taken 8 years for the PS3 to catch up to the 360. whichever way you look at it, that...
Microsoft survived because of the games, and because of the warranty. i didnt care if my console died because itd get fixed for free, which it did when it did get the RROD. when my PS3 got the YLOD the other month though, I was up $hit creek - had to buy a whole new console.
also, people seem to be overlooking a few things:
1. the YLOD is MUCH more widespread than the PS3 fanboys make it out to be. youd be hard pressed to find a launch 60gb or 20gb PS3 still...
lots of people commenting here clearly didnt read the article.
"we have more SKUs on the X360 because we are limited to just one language per disc, compared to the Blu-ray"
as you guys SHOULD know by now, there are 2 things in video games that eat up a lot of space - audio and video. textures (other than megatextures obviously) take up barely any space on a disc. geometry data takes up nothing. character models take up nothing.
if ...
"For the record cell processor on playstation 3 has 9 cores 1 ppe & 8 spes."
well yes and no.
Yes as in 'yes it has 8 SPEs', but No as in 'no it doesnt have 8 USABLE SPEs'.
out of the 8 SPEs, 1 is reserved for the Operating System at all times. this CAN NEVER be used for games. another 1 is PERMANENTLY DISABLED during production - making chips like that isnt easy, and to begin with there were lots of SPEs that d...
its funny how people say sony "Supported" the PS2 even after the PS3s release. "supported" isnt the right word IMO.
they kept making the actual hardware, sure - but they pretty much dropped SOFTWARE support for it straight away. after God of War 2, did sony even release another first party game on the PS2?
Microsoft made the 100% right decision to shift their entire focus from the original xbox to the xbox 360. now that theyre an establish...
remember that EVERY hotmail account - that you NEED to have to sign up to xbox live - comes with 25GB of cloud storage via SkyDrive. they could EASILY just partition that to 24GB regular and 1GB Xbox storage.
also note that they didnt say its limited to Gold membership, so Silver members will seemingly get access to this too.
2015? lol.
by then we'll have been playing the 360s successor for ~2 years, the wii u for 2-3 years, and probably the new PS4 for at least 1 year - who cares which is the 'most active users console' of the previous generation then? the next xbox will be 100% backwards compatible for sure, meaning anyone who buys the new xbox will stop playing their 360. the next PS wont be backwards compatible with PS3 games since it will be a completely different architecture, so...
no, Uncharted 3 isnt the best looking game ever. its not even the best looking Console game IMO.
lets get the simple things out of the way first - Uncharted 3 does not hold a candle to MANY PC games. this is BEYOND fact. technically, 720p + 2xMSAA + 30fps is no match for games running in 1080p+ + 16xMSAA + 60fps+ with every effect under the sun. artistic, you can make a point that you LIKE how it looks more than games like Crysis or Metro, but thats just opinion. it doesnt lo...
a few things that dont look good for sony from this article.
1. This all but confirms that GT6 wont be on the PS3. that means even if the PS3 lasts 7 years without being replaced by the PS4, they only got a single full release from Polyphony. that is absolutely terrible. questions must be asked about their place in the game development world, especially after the review scores and criticisms of that one release.
2. with GT6 not appearing on the PS3, that mean...
- The 360 is leading WW sales for this year - both Sony and Microsofts numbers confirm this. The sony fanboys saying otherwise are wrong.
- the USA, despite what the sony crew like to think, IS pretty much the world in terms of video games. thats where the majority of the sales are, thats where the majority of the games are made, thats where the most video game playing people are.
- the 360 is still cheaper, and will have a price drop soon enough as well.
- the 360 has...
wow did they only drop $50 from the US price?
we got a $150 price cut here in Australia - down from $499 to $349! that means the PS3 is now 35% of its original Australian launch price lol.
ive been waiting ~2 months since my launch PS3 got the YLOD for a price drop to get announced so i could replace it, so this is great news. ive missed my PlayTV lol.
Look, as much as Sony might have improved and might improve their dev tools even more, people seem to be forgetting that Microsoft literally make development tools for a living.
Visual Studio is the most widely used development environment around, and it is absolutely brilliant. Regular Joe blow can get it and make an XBLA game, so it's obviously user friendly and has all the documentation and examples readily available.
Microsoft know development tools...
the majority of N4G thinks games that are virtually on-rails are the best games ever - Uncharted 1 and 2. never more than 1 way to go, never more than 1 way to get to that way to go, and no possibility for exploration or backtracking.
Forza 3 shouldve been there for sure - it is, according to the large majority of professional critics, the best racing simulator on this current generation of consoles, and the highest selling PS3 exclusive is a racing simulator. therefor, PS3 owners should love to have Forza 3 as it's a better version of their highest selling exclusive.
as for the rest, well they pretty much pick themselves.
fail of an article though, like the PS3 one its just written to...
i made it to level 100 a fair while ago so im glad that i get something that seemingly very few other people will have. nice to be rewarded for my "dedication".
for those wanting to get to level 100 - play wingman. if youre good at the game, its the easiest way to level up. matches can be all over in 5 minutes, and you can get 10k+ points per round if youre good enough. wingman has the highest multiplier applied to your score at the end of matches out of all of the ...
the 'alcatraz' type level in Black is my favourite level in any game to date. i mustve played that entire level about a hundred times.
Emerald Hill Zone from Sonic 2 would is a very very very close second.
to the guys saying the PS3 can just use higher capacity Blu-Ray discs: no, it cant. Sony themselves have confirmed this.
the 100gb+ discs are a Blu-Ray format named BDXL - what you can assume stands for Blu-Ray Disc Extra Large . BD is single/dual layer, BDXL is 3+ layers as defined by the official spec.

lol how did i know people would take this completely out of context? good old N4PS3G.
this is for Xbox Live Arcade Games. this is NOT about full retail games. it does NOT mean that games such as Red Dead Redemption, GTA4, Skyrim etc have to be the same as the PS3 version or they wont be published lol. they are NOT XBLA games!! Microsoft have NO control over games that they dont publish, and they generally only publish first party games.
Microsoft have this ri...
