Hoooly smokes, if that's true I'm doomed. I'm running a once solid system (6700k 4.5ghz all-core, GTX 1080), so I'm prepping for some unholy performance if a 3080 is barely keeping 1080p60 lol.

Got my place in the EVGA queue for a 3060 Ti. The shortage is nuts - been in line since 12/1, the 1st day you could get on the notify system, and still nothing almost 2 months later. Probably stuck with what I've got for a while longer still.

The Medium here dips to 900p in certain scenes on the XSX: Here's a link to the DF video (timestamped for convenience):

Too late to edit, but I did just read this in Kotaku's review:

" Do you like searching for keys and levers over and over? I hope so, because that’s a lot of what you do in this game"

So it isn't that the fact progression is puzzle based that is tired, but the puzzles themselves are tired. That makes a big difference. I'm getting the sense this game is going to feel like a "meh" game to me when I get to play it, but still ho...

While the game is clearly polarizing, I find the comment about "tired puzzle-based progression" a bit strange. It's a staple of the genre. Knocking a horror-adventure typed game for having puzzles is almost like docking points for all the shooting going on in an FPS.

I'm personally not sure what to make of the game yet. Reviews are all over the place, so - as usual - I'll be making my own judgement. Thankfully I can check it out at launch due to the $1...

Seems polarizing so far from a gameplay standpoint, but what surprised me was watching the Digital Foundry breakdown.

XSX can top out at 4k, but lives in 1440p and can dip as low as 900p. At 30fps, I am kind of shocked any game goes sub 1080p on the XSX.

XSS tops out at 1080p, lives mostly in 900p, and can dip as low as 648p. Woof. Unreal's temporal upscaling seems to help improve the low native res, but I really thought that AC:Vs 720p60 would be the...

So in this comment you already call all exclusive Sony games "generic oscar bait" that they "regurgitate" every year. And your brief comment history having things in it like:

"Do some simple math friend. Without the moronic sony bias next time. Also ur salty rants about tlou2 is hilarious. Seems u guys are still really salty that even with all those rehashed awards its still considered a laughing stock by most."

So I guess pe...

FWIW, that's why I was saying I think the mid gen refreshes could probably be fixed up good enough. It seems they can both mostly be fine, running for long sections of time at a locked 30 FPS with exceptions hitting lower framerates. I was just shocked at the fact that the XOX was actually still hitting very low framerates in some circumstances.

I haven't played it myself, but was using the above video for my claims on framerate. For those curious, here is the time ...

Yeah, I'm fine with cursing, but it felt...weird in this piece. Use occasional cursing to punctuate points. Using "fuck" repeatedly robs it of its abilities to do so, and makes you sound like you're throwing a temper tantrum, not "taking a stand".

This being a two-page thing instead of 1 irks. Don't call out companies to stop doing terrible practices while you engage in click-inflating things at the cost of user experience on your own site. I...

Base PS4 is barely getting in the realm of passable. XOS is not in the ballpark. FPS lives mostly in the low 20s with frequent dips into the 10s. Even the XOX has sections of gameplay in the 10s! They *might* be able to iron out most of the kinks for the mid gen refreshes, but I can't ever see them getting base consoles in an acceptable state.

They have so many platforms to deal with and so many bugs, glitches, and performance issues to deal with on each that I don'...

- Folders.

- More games with the scope and ambition of Odyssey & BotW.

- Nintendo Selects for Switch, or alternately just actually decent sales/price drops on older games. Games released nearly 4 years ago still being MSRP $60 (with official sales knocking 25-33% off at most) is nuts.

Just curious, as I have yet to play it, what new concepts have you found it brought into the world? It seems like a mostly straightforward open world RPG-lite game from everything I've seen of it so far.

Same. I've always been value minded, so I was already accustomed to waiting even just a couple of months before picking up a game. You'll save $20, sometimes $30 just waiting that short a time. And if you can wait 8-12 months, you might be able to buy a game for $20. Given the state that games usually launch in, and the fact I have a massive backlog already, I can't really ever see me buying games at launch.

Yeah, if we didn't have such a strong preorder culture then I think things could have gone differently.

Their Night City Wire videos on the depth and complexity of the city & game systems were clearly just false - among other issues, like the lack of transparency about the state of the game on base consoles. But as long as we keep giving money before we actually know the state and quality of what we're buying, we're going to continue to embolden companies to...

Can they just...stop gobbling up everything? This is such a great indie studio. I'm not a fan of Tencent having a majority stake in them. Companies like Riot, whatever. But smaller quality devs? Quit it, Tencent!

Wow, this article literally copy/pastes the Kickstarter wording & just changed any 1st person verbiage that the company used to things like "they" or "Human Head". What was the point of this? It is lazy & feels almost like plagiarism, it not being clearly denoted that this article is essentially just a copy/paste of marketing material and not an article written in the authors own voice/words. Bizarre.

So weird how opinions can differ so greatly. The greatest compliment (?) I could give it is that it helped redouble my beliefs of not getting wrapped up in hype, giving professional reviews a *healthy* dose of skepticism, & to NEVER preorder.

I wasn't going to get it, but finally bought into the immense hype & near perfect review scores. Preordered a copy the day before release, got it home and...was really underwhelmed. Just really just didn't get it. And i...

I mean, I personally can't. The Switch is in a weird position if you're a multiplatform gamer. My Switch has been sadly underutilized since its 2017 purchase. Had some good times early with Odyssey & M+R:KB, but not much else after that has really interested me. Or at least enough to stump up $60, as their titles rarely - if ever - go on meaningful sale. I did enjoy FE:3H for about 30 hours before I burned out on it, but precious little outside those titles.

I l...

Holy smokes, that opening paragraph is...rough. First impressions are important, so you have to nail the opening if you want people to invest the time reading the rest of your piece. If you can't put in the effort there, I can't help but question how much effort was put into the rest of the piece.

And I hate to dog pile, but it's a pretty bad list too. It at least does offer links to some products under each category, but pointing out a gaming keyboard and mous...

MH has never been about the story, it's pretty much all about the gameplay. If it doesn't resonate with you, I would say this one is just not for you. Included story is generally just enough to give the world some cohesion and a basic reason as to why you're hunting ("research" lol).
