Poor Wii U. It's got nothing left. Wish I never bought the thing and just waited for everything to come out on the better systems later. Truly unprecedented to have basically no titles of value left to give the thing any identity of its own.
@zacfoldor I hear you, but Hollow Knight was a $15 game. SotN was released back in the '90s, when practically all games were sidescrollers/2D and expensive - that doesn't really count.
I'm not discounting this game could be great! But I can't help but question its value. Value, of course, is very personal. If one person earns minimum wage & supports a child and another person is making over $100k, has no children, etc, then price probably factors very li...
"Gamers" with a capital G? No, not really. But it is very clearly not aimed at gamers, it is aimed at the average family; a device for households that have only ever owned a Wii. It's a neat concept, but it's clearly too simplistic for your average gamer.
Metroid: Samus Returns came out on 3DS in 2017, which was a 2D Metroid. Well reviewed as well. So it's nice, though it doesn't seem monumental (doubly so, given it is gonna cost $60).
Edit: Though if you meant wholly new, then I suppose that's true given M:SR was a remake of the first game. I'm pretty interested to see how it turns out, but definitely going to wait for a price drop.
They came out at the same time, Horizon actually launching a few days prior to BotW. Where do people keep getting this notion?
You aren't wrong. This is $60. I don't really understand how they keep pricing things so high. I guess because people pay it, but the economics should really mean this game retails for $40 max. Like what a top-tier 3DS game used to cost. I was really hoping that's what the 3DS devs getting rolled into Switch production meant - smaller scale games with high quality, but at a lower price. It has ultimately just meant 3DS games that were $30-40 now cost $60 instead.
I was too, until I realized it was $60. This game does not command the same money as something like BotW or Odyssey. There's no way this cost the same for them to make or advertise. This simply shouldn't cost $60. I'll play it eventually, but I can't see me biting before $40.
Game looks solid, but I mean...holy hell. $60? Come on, Nintendo. There's no way this game cost you as much to develop as something like BotW or Odyssey. They might be the only company still creating $60 sidescrollers. So weird.
There's truth there, but to be fair that transition started back in ~2015 with Phil's push for Xbox and PC to be more unified. Back then, the discourse around Xbox putting their titles on PC - from both PS/XB fans - was pretty negative. I mean, back in the PS3/360 era, when FFXIII was no longer exclusive, Sony fans decried the move and Xbox fans thumped their chest. It's kind of how it is until you have to adapt. That adaptation has been to change the definition of what exclusive ...
Wait, are you suggesting that adding diversity means removing fun? I mean, I've played plenty of games that don't focus on diversity/inclusion and aren't fun in the slightest. Doesn't seem to be an inextricable link between the two. Gotta say I'm lost on this one.
I don't know why someone wanting to see gameplay makes them a....sigh...."Sony Pony". I also want to see some gameplay for this, as there's almost nothing to go on. I mean, I'm tentatively excited. I'm hopeful, but I've also got a dose of healthy skepticism. And I think we can agree that has become more important as the years have gone by, given what we've seen with marketing/false advertising/overhype in the industry. On top of that, Starfield was trademarke...

It is and it isn't. If you just wanted to run the game as it was on PS4 at 4k60, done. Should be no problems there. But this game got higher quality assets/rendering/lighting/etc. So if you tried running that version on a base PS4, it would choke well below the 1080p30 it ran at.
On top of that, 4k is 4 times as pixel-dense as 1080p. The game ran at 1080p30 on base PS4, a ~2 tflop console. So running 4k60 would be not only 4 times the pixels, but those 8 million pixels ...
Definitely an aesthetically underwhelming introduction, but it is Platinum, and they are better known for their mechanics than their visuals. I'll hold out hope for this to be a good game, even if a bit on the ugly side lol
Fair enough. You love it, you want more. I don't love it, I want something else. I like the idea, but not its execution. I'm happy that others enjoy it for what it is, though, and if it ends up not being something for me, hopefully it'll at least be something for you.
100%. I tried again. They failed to keep me...again. Stop trying to yuk it up with - I hate using this word, but when the shoe fits - cringy hosts in between announcements. It's going to be another overlong show where it drags unnecessarily, and you get met with ads and cringe while waiting for the next morsel of info.
And 15 minutes in, you can already see they are committing too much time to developer interviews and such, continuing to drag the pace down. Get 'em...
Ooookay, I don't really ever use "cringe", but this opening (and the main presenter)...ooof. Let the stream buffer a good 5-10 minutes to allow yourself the luxury of skipping the inane dialogue (and integrated ads) between showcases/trailers.
Edit: Or maybe just skip it and watch the collection of trailers afterwards. Not a fan of the structure or banter, and the opening thus far has been filled with stuff you expect to be peppered in between bigger announce...
Probably been in development a while, and this is still supporting PS4/XBO - the fact things have to support base XBO if they launch on last-gen XB is really tough for any modern game launch. Hopefully they have an improved version for PC/XSX/PS5 at/near launch.
And something tells me development is more on Koei than it is on Square, and KT has not historically ever focused on pushing visuals much.
I'll be curious to see how that stacks up to the PC version that requires raytracing capable GPUs. I have the RT-only version of Exodus sitting patiently in my Steam library, but I'm not convinced I'll ever actually get a GPU upgrade. Been sitting in the damn EVGA queue for my RTX card since 12/1/2020! And who knows when I might snag a PS5. Absolute madness...
It didn't really add much value in my mind. You basically used what you had, or were too afraid to use the best stuff because you were waiting for the perfect opportunity to use them. Maybe they could keep it in in the beginning, but allow you to upgrade a "honing" skill so that as you progress. Worst case, your weapons degrade less. Best case, the ultimate top-tier will make it so no weapons break. Lets you feel like you've earned the right to keep your weapons.
