The problem with XIII was not Open/Linear. If you guys recall, FFX doesn't open up until you get control of the airship--which is when you're inside Sin..meaning the game only had a handful of hours left meaning it was 'linear' for longer than XIII was.

Criticize what was actually wrong with FFXIII.

The problem FFXIII was the utter lack of variety. Even if XIII wasn't linear, what would it be? It would only go from a hallway from of monst...

How is it still linear if the game has 9 different endings based on what you do and multiple side quests? There's no way you could say it's linear.

It may not be what everyone wants out of a new Final Fantasy, but yes, from everything I've seen and played of the demo, and everything I've heard from importers, it's over all a much better game than XIII was, at the very least.

Ranma1, will you please stop? Not only have you been trolling but you even submit stories just to troll.

Actually, More of the "less established" gamers as well as Casuals gamers begin to buy into consoles as their lifespan gets closer to its second half/end because the prices are much more affordable to them, and there is more diversity to the library and at an affordable cost.

Thats why Ps3 and 360 both continue to do fairly good numbers for both companies.

@Rainstorm, I've been a Final Fantasy fan almost all my life. Sure I'm disappointed with the series direction as of late, but even so, you can only whine about it so much. XIII-2 looking to be a much better game, Type-0 said to be incredible and Versus XIII looking to be quite excellent, the whole scenario isn't nearly as much doom and gloom as some fans say it is.

Why in the world do you keep submitting these articles, Ranma1? If you hate Final Fantasy that much, stop talking about it.

If You could careless for FF13 and its sequel, why do you show up on every single ffxiii-2 article?

@SlayorOfGod

They were Linear, except X did Linearity properly.

That's because people are improperly criticizing Final Fantasy XIII. The game was very flawed, but to say the biggest flaw was linearity is inaccurate. The real problem with Final Fantasy XIII was the incredible lack of variety. There was nothing to do outside of what they forced you to do. There were no towns to revisit, minigames to play, or anything outside to of walking forward and fighti...

Actually, I don't know if you've guys have played the remakes of FF3 or 4, but if there's anything Square Enix can do right nowadays it's a remake. They also added a lot of new features and elements that didn't ruin the original game's balance or play.

If they could do the same thing with higher quality graphics (Take FFX and possible add some additional quests and the rumored Blitzball PSN multiplayer), it'd be incredible.

@ReservoirDog316

No. It is composed by Nobuo Uematsu. And Just so you know Uematsu has composed for more Square Enix games after X. He contributed a song for 12, and he was responsible for the Final Fantasy XIV OST.

Wow. Nothing in that comment with opinionated and yet it got some disagrees... It is a fact that Crazy Chocobo is a Nobuo Uematsu song, and I added a citation source to prove it. Only on N4G can people disagree with an non-bias stated fact. LOL.

The Crazy Chocobo song, believe it or not---is actually composed by Final Fantasy (or Square Soft In general) music's Father, Nobuo Uematsu. He's contributed a few tracks to Final Fantasy XIII-2:

The Story sucks from what I hear because of Time Paradoxes explaining everything and it can become extremely convoluted and at times silly.

At the same time, Time Traveling was sort of the only way to continue the story because Grand Pulse would pretty much just be wild nature land, and Cocoon is in a state of panic.

Female as the main character? Not only is that sexist, but you're also saying that FF6 wasn't great either. Thats nonsense.

The 360 doesn't explain why I couldn't choose my own party until the 9th chapter or so. Blaming the 360 doesn't account for the huge lack of variety outside of gameplay. Blaming 360 doesn't account for flaws of the Crystarium in example.

XIII didn't meet expectations because of poor design, not hardware limitations.

Right. So I like how take that obscure bash Seriously from some editor, but not Japanese 2 biggest gaming magazines Famitsu and Dengeki...which use a review method of multiple reviewers playing one game to be fair and balance--to which they all gave the game a perfect score.

5172d ago 5 agree9 disagreeView comment

Uhhh....actually you do have near full control of your party. Not only can you switch between characters, they've added a feature called Paradigm tuning which lets you make small adjustments to AI.

I actually liked the QTE's. If you fail them, you aren't penalized. But if you do them correctly, you receive bonuses like a faster stagger or haste...the pacing is nice.
