The end of the Gamecube was the end of my love for Nintendo. I really liked the direction they'd headed partnering with developers for more mature exclusive games. It was a powerful little console with some stellar games. Favourites included Metroid Prime, Star Fox Adventures, Eternal Darkness, Wind Waker, Resident Evil 1 remake and RE4, MGS The Twin Snakes, Rogue Leader/Rebel Strike.
Since then it's all been gimmicky stuff I don't care about and a bigger focus ...
I think Battlefield and COD both being incredibly average this year will help Halo, which would have been popular anyway.
Admittedly I've never been a big Halo fan, but I'm not quite understanding the super hype after having played some games the past couple days. It really feels like it could be Halo 3 multiplayer with a new skin. Weapons don't feel weighty. Animations are average. Overall graphical fidelity very much looks rooted in last gen (yes, i know it...
I'm talking about how they'd partner with developers for exclusives that were more mature etc, they actively looked for that back on the Gamecube. Some third party developer porting their game for extra sales isn't the same.
If it still sells, Nintendo won't see it as a problem. It's their business after all.
Unfortunately they really lost me as a fan after the gamecube. It's been gimmicky stuff I just haven't cared about ever since the Wii came out. The gamecube saw Nintendo branching into more mature games and genres I enjoyed, but the focus has most definitely gone back to more family friendly stuff since. I'm just not interested in that. I really only bought a Switch for...
You mean there hasn't been a top tier wrestling video games since WWF No Mercy.
I was going to pick this up soon, but not for 1080p 60fps. I'll wait and see if they add a 1440p 60fps mode with lower lighting settings etc. Can't stand looking at a blurry 1080p image anymore.
Day one releases seem incredibly doubtful. They want people buying PS5 and subscribing to PS Plus. If PS5 games did come day one though, there's two reasons it would annoy me.
1 - Some games won't take full advantage of next gen tech if they're also made for PC. PC covers a lot of specs from people still running mechanical hard drives to people using weak CPUs. This could hold back PS5 games if they have to also work on old PC tech.
2 - I woul...
I'm sure Phil previously talked about VR being the next step in gaming and how it would be a part of Xbox. Now he's changed his mind. It is a big investment though. Seeing as only a percentage of your existing player base will adopt your VR hardware, it might just not be worth it to Xbox with it's current hardware base, especially as hardware obviously isn't their focus anymore.
I have a PSVR and i'll be getting a PSVR2.
I got the original dark plates and like them. I actually like this new design, but i keep my PS5 horizontal. I think these new plates look better in the vertical position.
Fun in games is subjective. Plenty of people loved the Halo beta. I found it boring and uninspired. Plenty of people loved Hades. I thought the combat was too repetitive and just involved spamming dodge. Lots of people love car games. I don't.
If you don't spend a lot of time in handheld mode, i don't see why you would upgrade. While i rarely play my Switch, when i do it is only on a TV, upscaled with an mClassic. The OLED model would be useless to me.
While I don't game on PC these days, if I did, I'd just emulate all my Switch games so i could play at good resolutions. Unfortunately my old crappy laptop won't play at better resolutions than the Switch already does, so there's no point.
I'm sceptical that they will turn this franchise from the incredibly dull, AA (at best) games SoD 1 and 2 were into anything special, but I'm happy to be surprised. I wanted to like those games, but there was just nothing interesting about them. It was one of those games that made me sleepy to play.
I think the casual pick up and play of the Forza Horizon series is why it is so popular. You can also go very in depth with it if you want to. I'm not really into car games, but even i got like a good month of play from FH4 on game pass. Kind of burnt out on the game play loop now, so don't think I'll play much of FH5, but i expect it to be a big success.
I mean, are we surprised? They've made it free to play to push people towards microtransactions.
Xbox's strategy seems to be for revenue streams other than direct hardware and software sales. Don't be shocked if over time, more and more Xbox first party titles go down this path or the 'day one to game pass!' first party titles see bare bones releases on game pass with everything else behind DLC and microtransactions.
I own multiple Switch games i've never finished because i only play on a TV and hate the low fps and resolution. I regret buying the system. But this... looks like I'll be playing those games after all.
This is what i worry about. People will just play stuff because it's on a cheap service like game pass and seem less worried about the quality of games (Avengers is incredibly average). As game pass grows and needs more content, there's always the possibility it leads to lower quality games to pump them out to provide more content for a service like game pass. This could even spill into Xbox first party games over time.
Yet to be seen, but a concern of mine.
Missed opportunity for an Elite Duke controller! This is nothing more than standard controller with a different color scheme.
Doesn't mean i'm wrong though.
I didn't particularly enjoy it, although admittedly I'm not a Halo fan and never have been. The big team game was ok, but there was nothing special about it for me personally. Weapons felt average (although i never did pick up the big hammer). The aesthetic overall was rather dull (but I've always thought that of Halo). Animations were a bit stiff. Nothing felt innovative or new in terms of an FPS game. Graphics (on Series X) were serviceable, but looked very much made in last gen...
How utterly ridiculous. I tried some too. So bland and uninspired.
