A lot of game companies f'you but the way Capcom does it just feels wrong.
Universal specs would allow devs to optimize games to that specific hardware, you'd never have to worry if your computer could run the game and whether it's at an acceptable level giving you the main advantage of consoles.
Also, by eliminating the middle-men (Sony, MS and even retailers to an extent), games can be $20 cheaper or if still $60, more risky games can be made because returns to the dev would be much higher.

This year is making me very happy it didn't sell my 360. My PS3 will, for the first time in while, take a back seat to my 360 in terms of play time. It's a great year to be a 360 owner for the first time in a while.

This gen isn't ready for 3D, the degradation in graphics quality is too much for me to enjoy it in most games.

You'll always run into problems when the suits control the development process, they reject all forms of innovation. Hell, even the suit of suits, Kotick thought COD4 was a stupid idea.
People buy COD because they like, a lot of creative games have floundered sales wise. Devs are trying to give gamers what they want, and it happens to be military shooters at the moment.
In regards to Kinect, it doesn't work well enough as a controller, it's MS's fault that core games aren't on Kinect, it's incapable of controlling them.
I think games like Bulletstorm are much more kiddie than Zelda. Some of the dialogue in that game would only appeal to a person who just learned how to curse.
