PS2 has been out for many years and a lot of time has passed.

Nintendo only cared about 1st party games this generation plus the Wii console isn't exactly compatible with most multi platform games.
Sony and MSFT have been doing this in this current gen with MSFT having a bit more cash available. The last year or so Sony and MSFT have been equally doing this. Sony actually has plenty of deals with major multi platform games releasing in the next year or two as does MSFT.
I just hope people are not confusing the xbox ...

LoL at the disagree. We know the motherboard any other components are not going to be stacked ontop or put underneath the disc drive so we know It's going to be wide and probably 3" to 4"...
Certainly won't be a cheap looking toy like the original xbox 360. Probably more like a modern home electronic device like a taller BLU-RAY player. I'd be surprised if it has an exotic shape like the 360 models. The direction MSFT is going is that of a serious Home entertainment component. We already seen the jump from the original 360 and the 360 slim(quality wise, matches high end HT components) My guess is more like the Wii U but wider vs deeper

LoL I came in here to say the same thing. It's almost like people are saying MSFT said no!!! to core games on the 360 from all developers. This talking actually comes from haters angry and envious MSFT successfully penetrated the casual market.
Tom is right. Nintendo has cashcow franchises that leaves the door open for continued relevance in the gaming market. Sonic the Hedgehog is a example of door stopping franchise. Without franchises like this companies wouldn't have the opportunity for future new IP's as a major player(software) in the industry.

I kind of agree. Nintendo keeps getting one up-ed on hardware. The competition is learning how to appeal to the casual gamers that sustains them. Nintendo doesn't bring added value to the entertainment side of their consoles outside of gaming, in any real measure. No focus on multi media, robust online and no real desire or motivation to partner with companies that can enrich the brand for more appeal or sustainable appeal.

Couldn't succeed without adopting this strategy. Consumers expect this now and see it as added value often times justifying the hard earned cash spent. Connectivity and multi media is a must. Just purchased a Panasonic KX-TG6644 Digital Cordless Answering System home phone because it has many features that add value and it also allows my cellphone to use the land line, share ringtones from cellphone on the home phone etc.
Consoles are becoming the platform these companies can sell and or expose their products from other departments. This concept is growing so fast consoles won't be called game machines in a couple of generations(games will still be a focus)

With Sony's list fluffing tactics there's no guarantee those games will even come out next year. Some of those games are years late with rumor of one being canceled. It's hard to say if games are late or if they are prematurely announced on purpose to garner hype and trick fanboys into influencing the media. MSFT has Hardcore, casual and motion blockbusters exclusive IPs this holiday. The biggest games in gaming are all on the 360, exclusive or not. Motion, shooters, Racing, RPG's, Arcade, Multi Media. This is what consumers care about.
