Sony advertising can only go so far if you can't win the mindshare. MSFT has no mindshare of image in Japan. Sony has reduced advertising in NA because of weakened mindshare of image. Most people would choose a Samsung led regardless of Vizio hdtv ads because of mindshare of image.
The mindshare was earned by offerings and quality of product. Sony products sales are down because less people want their products, ads won't help much.

Yes devices being able to connect to the web with a browser sell hardware lol. People also buy divices for Netflix, Blu-ray drive, web surfing.

PS3 hardware did alright after PS2 hardware problems. Are you saying a late PS2 hardware revision last generation is good enough but a late 360 hardware revision this generation doesn't count and will threaten the generation after?
