What I find hilarious is that Phil Harrison has stated that Microsoft will NEVER sell the Xbox One without the Kinect 2.0, and mostly everyone believes that. Of course he is going to say that. Do you know how many people would just cancel their preorder if they knew they could wait a few months to buy an Xbox One without Kinect?
Machinima has stated that we will see a Xbox One bundle without the Kinect in the summer of 2014. I'll pick mine up then.
"But let's jump back to the first-party titles. Why are they so crucial? Because they're the major franchises. The franchises that everyone knows and that everyone loves - the franchises that move units."
Exactly. These games are why people buy Nintendo consoles. These games will move units, increasing the install base better than anything. With an increased install base, we will eventually see more quality third party games. Great blog.
@Brucis
A low install base equals low sales, which is the deciding factor. A quality third party game will still have low sales when there is a low install base. This isn't rocket science.
Yes, many people won't buy a gimped game on the Wii U, but apparently not enough people will buy a quality third party game, either. The sales are not there, regardless of what type of game is published. You make the assumption that a quality third party game will s...
That's my point though. It makes no financial sense to invest a lot of money in a quality third party title when there is a very low Wii U install base.
The publisher won't make their money back, let alone make a profit. That's why we are seeing half-baked versions, would you invest time and money in something that won't sell many copies and won't bring in any profit?
Why bother then? Why not abandon the Wii U? There's no money to be...
Great minds think alike. Nintendo is completely in control of whether the Wii U will succeed or fail.
We will continue to see shoddy third party ports for the Wii U, that is if we see ANY third party support at all. There is no financial incentive to release a game that costs a substantial amount of money to produce on a console with a low install base. Plain and simple.
The only way Nintendo can increase the install base is to release big first party games....
Nintendo is to blame. I think the main reason people buy a Nintendo console is to play games that are made by Nintendo. We haven't really seen any huge first party games released yet. Look at all the franchises they have that they haven't taken advantage of! No big Nintendo games on the console equal low sales. Low sales equal no support from third party publishers. It isn't worth the time or money of the third party publisher to put a game on the Wii U because of the low install ...
I've heard it's going to be exclusive to Xbox and PC for one year. Many major publications are betting that it will come to the PS4 in 2015.
Definitely, I just don't like that model. For the life of me, I could not put a disc in that console without scratching it. I took it back to Target and got the front-loading slim instead.
I thought that, too. I used a wireless connection for my fat PS3, download speeds were terrible, updates took forever. I could never stay in a complete Killzone 3 mp match because of it. I switched to a wired connection which significantly improved speed, haven't had any problems since. I don't know if there were problems with the wifi in my old PS3, or if all PS3 have wireless connection problems. A wired connection is the way to go.
This whole thing from Microsoft has been one wild ride. I still can't believe all of this has happened. I used to be such a big Xbox fan. Loved the original Xbox, and I still play my 360 every week. I'm going to have a wait-and-see approach for the Xbox One though. The only gripes I still have with the system is no SKU without Kinect 2.0 and the HHD can't be replaced. If MS fixes these I will seriously consider buying one later down the road.
The only game out of these three that I will not be picking up is Lost Planet 3. I wasn't impressed with the first game and didn't bother with the second. I thought overall sales of Lost Planet 2 were pretty poor, not enough at least to warrant a sequel.
You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.
That's exactly my point though. You said it yourself, most developers don't take advantage of the Vita's touch screen. Most developers did not implement Kinect features into third party games. Heck, even studios owned by Microsoft didn't use it. What's to say the same scenario won't happen with the Kinect 2.0? Of course no one has the preconception that EVERY game will have Kinect 2.0 features. That's not even remotely realistic. My argument is that not enough game...
I am a little surprised by how many gamers still want a mandatory Kinect 2.0 with every Xbox One console. Yes, Kinect is practically the only thing left that helps distinguish the Xbox One from the PS4, but will third party developers spend the extra time and money to implement useful Kinect features into their games? With the gaming industry as it is right now, are publishers going to foot the bill for features unless they are inexpensive to include? I know we may see some cool stuff from Mi...
Ummm no. The Ultimate Warrior did not know how to wrestle. He hurt several wrestlers and managers. He was on steroids. As bad as a wrestler Hogan was, he had to walk him through their match at Wrestlemania 6. He stood up sick children that were scheduled to meet him. He also wouldn't show up for matches. Hart was supposed to fight him at a Royal Rumble, but Warrior was a no show, so Scott Hall filled in for him. None of the wrestlers liked him. The guy had no talent, he just juiced.
Possible price drop summer 2014. Bundles with no Kinect 2.0.

Again, you are missing some relevant information.
Activision is a business, and that company is out to make money. Activision will continue to put out Call of Duty annually for as long as it is economically viable for them to do so. Even if sales numbers are cut in half, the company would still be selling between 13 and 14 million copies. Those are sales numbers any publisher would kill for, even more so considering the current climate of the gaming industry.
...
While I share your enthusiasm for the hopeful demise of Call of Duty, I believe you aren't taking many things into consideration when making your case.
Out of all the games you have listed, the only one that has a decent chance of touching COD in sales is Battlefield 4, and that's wishful thinking. There was an article in the last few days stating sales for Battlefield 4 are predicted to be around 14 million, which is still a far cry from the 26 million Modern Warfar...
I love this game so much that I'm going to marry it. Together we will have several misguided and extremely violent children.
It could top the SW prequels, because for the most part anything could. Couldn't ever touch the original films. Destiny could surpass Halo, seeing how that series has changed over the years.
