By Sony stating they will leave this up to publishers and the powers that may be is basically stating they will follow the same model as Microsoft in this regards. Why? Because most publishers will profit more from this model. Simple.

The market has changed and continues to change. This most likely will be the last era of the "dedicated" hand held gaming. You will see Sony and Nintendo create a gaming hand held that will be a hybrid smartphone gaming device more advanced then what Sony Xperia is currently.

The Vita is in such a odd situation. At the price point of the Vita, it falls into the same buying territory and age demographics as Smartphones and tablets. The 3Ds because of its lower price point and Nintendo's name for handheld gaming dodges this.
It's a shame as you are seeing more consumes buying Smartphones and tablets for mobile gaming now. The Vita cannot compete with this changing market

The biggest enemy for the Vita is Mobile gaming from Tablets and Smartphones.
Those devices are canabilzing the Vita's sales as the price of the Vita is in that same ballpark and also it targets the same age demographics.
It's a tough situation for the Vita to be in these days.
The 3Ds survives and does well based on the initial launch price and Nintendo's reputation as the foremost in dedicated handheld gaming targeted mostly towards the age demographic...
The Vita is a victim of arriving at the party at the wrong time. It's such a high quality piece of hardware and solid build but it comes out at a time when these tablets and smartphones are canabilizing the mobile gaming market... Especially at the cost that the Vita is and almost the same demographic age as these mobile devices. Solid tech and hardware the Vita is. Such a shame about the sales numbers...
